    Clarinera Major - Juan Vicente Mas Quiles

    The famous Spanish arranger, composer and conductor Juan Vicente Mas Quiles (Lliria, 1925) has laways had very close connections with the interantionally reknown symphonic band 'Banda Primitiva' (El Clarin) of his native town in the neighbourhood of Valencia. He started in the band as a young musician, he has often been a member of the council, he has constantly been guest-conductor and also very often acting-conductor and he still is the first musical advisor of this elite band. Each year the members of the society (the clarineros and clarineras) elect the 'Clarinera Mayor', the young lady presiding the group of PR ladies, dressed in national costume. It was to honour Seorita Belinda Verdeguer Garcia, Clarinera Mayor 1994-95, that Mas Quiles wrote this festive and elegant concert pasodoble.

    This is the finale from the original soundtrack of the opening ceremony of the XVII Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway, 1994. The piece was composed by Knut Reiersrud, Iver Kleive and Marilyn Mazur.
