A Scottish Hymn is a chorale arrangement of a hymn composed by Charles Hutcheson, a Scottish merchant and amateur composer who lived from 1792 to 1860. This hymn was given the title "Stracathro," a typical Scottish name after a town in the district Angus. The melody is used with various hymn texts in the Scottish church.

Isaac Watts (1674-1748) wrote the lyrics of "There is a land of pure delight" and is known as the "Father of English Hymnody". Watts was for the English hymn as Ambrose was for the medieval Latin hymn and what Martin Luther was for the German chorale. He wrote about 750 songs, and some of them survide the ravahes of time. (Joy To The World, When I survey the wondrous cross, I sing the Mighty Power of God) "There is a Land of Pure Delight" is usually in English-speaking areas sung on Luther Orlando Emerson's melody ('Ascription'). To My Country comes from the trio section of the Dutch composer Bernard Zweer (1854-1924) third symphony. The third symphony was composed at a time when many composers were inspired by great patriotic feelings, and Zweers compositions were said to have been an influence on Dvorak, Smetana, Sibelius and Grieg. The arrangement of this chorale was written for the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands on May 5th 1995 and is dedicated 'To My Country'.

£137.99Hanover Festival - Philip Sparke
The Hanover Wind Symphony, New Jersey, USA was founded in 1984 by its conductor Peter Boor. He commissioned HANOVER FESTIVAL to celebrate the band's 15th Birthday and the first performance took place on October 27th 1999. The piece starts with a solemn brass fanfare. Woodwinds join in and the music subsides into an expressive chorale. A climax is reached and the fanfare returns. Trumpets introduce an explosive vivo section, characterised by an energetic theme from the horns and low clarinets. A bridge passage with strong brass chords leads to a playful section that introduces a legato central theme under woodwind figures. This is taken up by the full band, the playfulmusic returns and the original horn tune is reintroduced. Finally the opening fanfare returns, this time accompanied by music from the vivo section, until a fast and furious coda closes the work.

£110.99Overture for Woodwinds - Philip Sparke
This work was commissioned for The Berkshire Young Musicians Trust (England), who required a testing piece for the woodwind section of their concert band. The piece opens with a strong unison passage based on the interval of a fifth and develops with a passionate legato. This is followed by the main vivo section of the work based on the earlier 'fifth' figures. A bridge passage leads to a short chorale figure and a rhythmic climax which dissolves into a plaintive solo for oboe over staccato clarinets. Following a recapitulation of the main theme the oboe returns triumphantly before the opening unison passage reappears to provide a stirring coda.
