£87.60Japanese Tune - Soichi Konagaya
Japanese sounds, pentatonic scales, throbbing drums and (for Western wind orchestras something quite new), glissandi on the double-reed instruments. The fact that Molenaar's Editions for wind-orchestra are now sold worldwide has a reciprocal effect. Composers from countries such as Japan are gratified to see their work appearing in our lists of new publications. We consider ourselves fortunate that we have been able to publish this 'Japanese Tune', as we are convinced that it will exercise a refreshing new influence on the wind-music repertoire.Technically speaking, the opening section with its shrill glissandi is the most difficult. In the percussion, use can be made of the various Japanese Drums, but these can easily be replaced by Tom-Tom, Cymbals, Sleighbell, etc. etc.

Atmospheres was composed for the Uster Musiktage and first performed in Uster (Switzerland) on october 1st 1989.The idea for the music comes from the thought that whilst a room remains the same, somehow the 'atmosphere' within that room changes according to the ambiance created by actions and emotions of the people in it. For example, an argument can cause an uncomfortable, uneasy atmosphere whereas laughter can cause a light, happy atmosphere in the same place. The place itself remains the same, but the atmosphere changes.So, in this piece there is an 'atmosphere' chord, which hardly changes throughout the piece, except that it is transposed at times. However, what goes on around that chord causes it to apparantly change according to the prevailing emotion. There are 3 sections which are quite seperate, but the music is played without a break. These 3 sections are really self explanatory: 1 - Mystery, 2 - Evil and 3 - Calm.

The Dutch conductor and composer Vincent van den Bijlaard (Rheden, 1968) already attracted attention with his 'Winter Symphony' . Now he arranged a set of ten international famous Christmas Songs which can already be performed by very small bands. You can hear 'Hark! The Herald sing', Silent Night, Holy Night', 'Er is een Roos ontsprongen' (a rose has grown), 'Once , in royal David's city', 'Gloria in excelsis Deo', 'O Tannenbaum, 'White Christmas', 'Let it snow', 'Jingle Bells' and 'Rudolph the red nosed reindeer'. Good to have at hand in December!

This is a real adventure for the musicians as well as for the audience

The piece was originally written for brass quartet and choir, for Oslofjord Brass and Vivo Vokal's Christmas concert in 2019. On 25th May 2011 a huge fire broke out in the Kalmthoutse Heath nature reserve north of Antwerp. Within a very short time more than 600 hectares of heath land went up in flames. The effect on the surrounding environment was huge. The fire left deepscars affecting the residents, those responsible for heath land, and also the members of the fire brigade who for several days risked their lives to fight the fire.The composition Inferno begins majestically and on a huge scale, exactly as theKalmthoutse Heath is. Soon a theme is introduced into the work in which the magnificent beauty of nature can be heard. We then hear the fires on the heath set to music. Even thefire helicopter can be heard, together with the first discussions thattook place after the alarm was raised with the Kalmthoutse fire brigade.One fact remains at the centre of this work, however: the natural beauty and splendour of the heath landscape. This is expressed at the start of the work in a theme that recursthroughout the piece. Towards the end it is finally replaced by a peaceful conclusion, representing the hope for a speedy regeneration of this wonderful nature reserve. Download the audio file from the 'Attachments'.

As the title suggests, this opening work consists of a fanfare and a hymn. This work was written for the opening ceremony of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf (Allgu, Germany) and can be played in four different versions depending on your needs or the players available. You can use a complete version, a short fanfare played just by trumpets (cornets), trombones and timpani, a double fanfare (extended with tutti-band) or a fanfare version followed by the hymn. Nordic Fanfare and Hymn is an extremely practical and versatile ceremonial opening piece.
