Princess Mononoke Fantasy Scenes - Joe Hisaishi
Princess Mononoke (1997) is recognized for its outstanding soundtrack. The CD "Princess Mononoke" recorded by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra after the film's release is also widely known. The CD arrangement follows the soundtrack and adds detailed scenes from the film with some development.Consider this arrangement a sequel to my previous "Selections from Princess Mononoke" as I have utilized additional songs from the soundtrack.By commission request from Mr. Shindo, director of the Girls Junior & Senior High School band club of Seitoku University, I arranged "San and Ashitaka in the Forest of the Deer" and "World of the Dead." The original features piano solo, which is very appealing. I made it optional which can be played by other instruments if needed. Bandanna Overture - Daron Aric Hagen
Bandanna is the extraordinary opera commissioned by a consortium of 79 members of the College Band Directors National Association, and premiered at the CBDNA convention in Austin, TX on February 28, 1999. This overture is not a part of the opera, but an independent concert work created by the composer for concert performance. A brilliantly scored composition, that has already been adopted by the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List, Overture to "Bandanna" features many musical ideas from the opera including the wonderful melody that brings audiences to their feet. Originally composed for solo organ, Hailstork's fanfare is a 3-minute explosion of joyous sound inspired by the Baroque-era tradition of Chorale Preludes. As in Bach's organ preludes, the familiar hymn's phrases broadly emerge from ornate counterpoint, here in the form of brass fanfares. The result is exhilarating! Also scored by Hailstork for chamber ensemble and for orchestra, FANFARE ON AMAZING GRACE was transcribed for concert band in January 2021 by MGySgt Don Patterson, staff arranger for "The President's Own" United States Military Band, for that ensemble's worldwide broadcast performance at the 2021 Presidential Inauguration.

Little Suite for Summer - Peter Schickele
These seven charming pieces were written by Mr. Schickele for his son's eight birthday, with the Primo part being easy enough for his son to play. The titles of the pieces were suggested by the music: CHA, CHA, CHA BOOMDEEAY because of the first movement's clangorous ending: NORTH STAR, with a hushed and lyrical melody inspired by the composer's stargazing: FOR CHARLIE THE PARROT, a vivid musical description of the imitative abilities of this bird: DUSK ON THE PALISADES, with its evocative ougmented chord textures: SORE IN THE SADDLE AGAIN, a delightful spoof of the well-known Western melody: GREASED LIGHTENING, with its flying runs and scales: and MINK HOLLOW MORNING,because of its gentle sostenuto lines and legato accompaniment figures-a musical description of a quiet and happy summer morning in the country. The Primo part is very easy, the Secondo is mostly easy medium. For studios, schools, some college & professional. Easy medium.

Downshifting - Dan Welcher
Commissioned by a consortium of 20 high school and university bands coordinated by Scott Hanna of the University of Texas at Austin, Downshifting is inspired by Welcher's joy of bicycle riding. Welcher explains in the program note: When I decided to write a piece for band that was basically entertaining and uplifting, it made perfect sense to call it Downshifting... With three gears on the front sprocket and seven on the rear, it's possible to keep one's legs going at a constant speed (for me, q = 126) while the bike itself may be moving very slowly or very quickly. I determined to capitalize on this in writing Downshifting, which keeps the same mathematical inner pulse,'shifting' (with a ratchet) as the terrain changes.
