Cantiphonia - Concerto For Euphonium - Bert Appermont
This spectacular three-part concerto (Contrasti, Romanza and Fugato) for euphonium and grand brass-band orchestra by Bert Appermont was composed upon request by the Swiss euphonium virtuoso Ueli Kipfer who created it in November 2004 with the Schweizer Armee Spiel conducted by Jan Cober. The composer was inspired more by its mood than the analysis of works by Mahler and Rachmaninov. This concerto, which is quite demanding for the soloist and a challenge for the orchestra, is probably one of the most innovative works by Bert Appermont to date. The composer also wrote an easier version of the solo part. More information can be found on our website.

Three Blind Mice - Bert Appermont
This composition is based on the children's song 'Three Blind Mice', of which the melody is featured in a range of variations: in a canon, in inversion, in minor, transformed, with changing harmonisations and orchestrations, and in different times and tempi. The work consists of three continuous, contrasting movements: 1) Mouse March: The mice cheerfully set off while the original melody is presented as a march. - 2) Hymn: In a tuneful hymn, the wonderful praises of the life of mice are sung. - 3) Catch Me If You Can: In an animated chase, the farmer's wife is trying to catch the mice. Following a stirring acceleration, she cuts off their tails in accordance with the lyrics of the song. I hope this work, with its humorous touch, will be a welcome contribution to the expansion of interesting repertoire for the lower divisions. - Bert Appermont

The Book of Genesis - Bert Appermont
Noah's Ark (1997) made its way through the international band scene and turned Bert Appermont into a renowned star whose music is now performed and recorded throughout the world. Fascinated by stories and sagas, he decided to combine different biblical stories into The Book of Genesis. In three movements - 'The Creation', 'Cain & Abel' and 'Babel' - these stories are depicted musically. Ensembles could use one standalone movement or multiple parts of the work in either a competition a concert; a most impressive choice sure to stand out from the crowd.
