Intervalic (Concert Band - Score and Parts)
The essence of improving the aural skills of your students is by teaching them to recognize melodic intervals as part of the structure of music. This contest/festival style piece is also designed to teach most of the major and minor melodic intervals through the two main themes of the piece. As an added bonus, the back page of the parts includes both of the melodies written out for all of the instruments so that you can use the piece to teach this concept. Lesson plan materials are included with the score. This piece is correlated to The Yamaha Advantage band method book 2, but can be used with any band program of study.

La Valiente is a rousing Spanish piece that combines flamenco, tango, and just plain fun that's sure to be a bright spot on any group's next concert. Written in d minor, it modulates approximately halfway through to a happier sounding F major, but as the piece concludes, students find themselves back in d minor. While there are quite a few accidentals, there are none within the piece by which students playing grade 3 music should be surprised, and they lend a nice authenticity to the sound. 1st trumpet's highest note is G. 1st and 2nd clarinets, only, cross the break.

The myth of El Dorado ("the golden one") stems from the story of a powerful chief who used to cover himself with gold dust before bathing in a sacred lake where he threw precious objects as offerings to the gods. The myth was soon relayed to the Spanish conquistadors and inspired many expeditions, although the invaders didn't bring back nearly as much gold as they expected, if any at all. Eldorado is a mysterious and dynamic work that illustrates the myth of the golden man and the European expeditions that followed. With a touch of exotic influences, the music is varied and rich. This piece was commissioned by the French Cultural Association Lille 3000 as part of their Eldorado-themed festival in 2019. Duration: 10.30
