Lastly, the fourth part describes the tense confrontation with the Cannibals and his return home.

This work was inspired by the legend of the Klokkeven, in which a church bell plays the leading part. It forms a connecting thread throughout the composition. The work consists of three continuous movements, each with its own atmosphere and character. In The Black Robber, we hear dark sounds in the brass and fast chromatic motifs. The Swamp contains mysterious low parallel fifths, imploring solos and chafing dissonant harmonies. Finally, in The Bell sweetly musing solos are hopefully accompanied by the church bell ringing from a distance. After a number of changes in tempo, the music ends in a grand tutti.Duration: 11.30

Concretely, this means that this flex version, following the opening fanfare, can be played along with the first movement (bars 9-52). At the heart of this piece are several elements that inspired the composer. First of all: nature, infinite and inexhaustible, giving life and power, something bigger than humans can grasp. The composer used the Gregorian hymn 'Veni Creator Spiritus' as a leitmotiv to reflect this idea. A second element was the passing of David Maslanka, a dear friend of the composer, honoured in the work by a few musical 'echoes'. At the end of the work, there is a passage for optional choir in different possible settings. The Source was commissioned by the Banda Giovanlie Regionale ANBIMA FVG, Italy, and is an impressive, stirring and moving piece of music. Duration: 8.00
