Johan Wichers, who was also known as The March King, was a trumpeter in the band in Nordhorn from 1905. Although he had no formal musical training, he managed to become a famous composer of marches. His march compositions were often based on his personal experiences. He wrote the "Mars der Medici" to thank the doctors who had cared from him during a long recovery in hospital. "Mars der Medici" may even have the right to be called a "hit". On YouTube it has been played hundreds of thousands of times, in its many different versions.

In the Air expresses a consistently joyful, light-hearted and positive vibe through its mischievously playful motifs; the music blows through as if a light breeze, a fresh wind. Gerald Oswald was born in 1968 in Gross-St. Florian. He completed his education as a trumpeter at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. He further pursued studies in conducting and composition under Franz Cibulka at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory in Graz, Thomas Doss at the Music and Arts Private University of Vienna, the Music School Leonding, and the C. Commissioned by Japan's Central Air Self Defense Force BandWhen I received this commission, I thought of a regular piece for wind band, but as my preparations continued I heard so much about the band's outstanding trumpeter Kenichi Kurisu that I ended up writing a concerto for him. The Self Defense Force audience includes those without much chance to otherwise hear live music. With that in mind I realized I also had the challenge of creating a melody that was compelling.Using the classical sonata as a model I made this song with simple movements and included a signature chorus in the middle section. Although this piece is performed with band, a version for piano accompaniment was created by pianist Orimo Manabu for the 20th Anniversary of "The Trumpet Concert."This edition of Trumpet Concerto was offered for an American Premier at the 2013 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Robert Sullivan soloist with the Kagoshima Joho High School Wind Orchestra.(Satoshi Yagisawa)
