Big Screen Fanfare & Rockbuster (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Rae, James
James Rae is the man who put fun into woodwind and brass teaching. His many compositions, especially in the jazz and blues idioms, have often featured on examination syllabuses. Recent years have seen his publications of easy flexible ensembles for younger players and now he turns his attention to the wind band. In this series "The Concert Band Collection", he has written exciting new pieces for the standard concert band line up. Attention is given to each instrument so that the technical and musical requirements do not exceed UK Grade 2.5. An optional piano part will provide "stuffing" and moral support for the young players who will quickly enjoy James' catchy and imaginative music. Each volume contains two titles. This one includes "Big Screen Fanfare", a fanfare in the style of a Hollywood movie theme and the cool "Rockbuster".

Prologo e Fantasia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul
William Walton's last 'original' work of note was the Prologo e Fantasia in 1981-2, commissioned by Mstislav Rostropovitch and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington D.C. It was first performed in London by Rostropovitch and the National Symphony Orchestra. The work consists of three sections. The first movement forms the Prologo, which is slightly reminiscent of the French Overture. The Fantasia opens briskly with characteristic Waltonian energy, and leads, after a climax, into the thematically connected final section Fuga finta (or 'make-believe fugue'). Note to conductors: orchestra performances of this work vary significantly, from a total length of just under five minutes in one performance to over six minutes and forty seconds in another. The audio presented with this arrangement is somewhat in the middle of the timings. So the metronomic markings may not necessarily be taken literally.

Sicilienne (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
Rob Wiffin heard this played by the young cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason as part of his short recital at the wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry in May 2018. He was immediately struck by the simple charm of the music and decided to arrange it for band. In doing so he thought it best to just touch it gently rather than over-arrange it. Apart from changes of colour and a little bit of counter-melody the tuneful elegance of the music appears just as in the original solo for violin or ?€cello. The music is attributed to the Austrian composer and musician Maria Theresia von Paradis (May 15, 1759 ?€" February 1, 1824) but, according to Grove Music, this is false and it was possibly composed by violinist Samuel Dushkin (1891-1976), based on Weber's Romanze from his Violin Sonata Op.10, No.1. Whoever it may have been composed by, it is a highly attractive piece.Duration: 2.5

Purcellian Fantasia (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan
This composition is based on the march from Henry Purcell's Music for the funeral of Queen Mary II, a work written in 1694. In this fantasia, various movements flow from one to the next following the main theme: these movements not only elaborate on the theme, but also contrast with it. At times, the thematic material diverges so much, that the work acquires a character of its own: however, the composer often refers back to fragments of the theme. Duration: 11.30

Rephrygeration (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stalter, Todd
A dynamic concert opener or closer cast almost entirely in the Phrygian mode. The half steps that make this scale mode so unique are celebrated both in a melodic and harmonic sense, with aggressive low brass figures, crisp and rhythmic percussion, and winding passages in the woodwind.Duration: 2:50

Scaff (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wheeler, Alastair
This clarinet sonata was composed in 1894 for clarinetist Richard M?hlfeld. This was an interesting time in Brahms' life as he vowed he would retire from composing in 1890 but after he heard a performance of the Weber clarinet concerto no. 1 and the Mozart clarinet quintet he so admired the soloist that he felt he should come out of retirement and compose 2 clarinet sonatas for him. These were completed in 1894 and first performed in a private concert in September of that year. These 2 sonatas were the last chamber pieces he composed before his death.
