The sections, called Isle of Joy, Land of the Women and The Feast intermingle with Song of the Otherworld, which acts as a sort of leitmotif.

Blessed Be That Maid Mary (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

The text for Blessed be that maid Mary comes from an anonymous 15th century English author. It makes liberal use of a common literacy device of the time: mixing English and Latin phrases together. The melody is from William Ballet's Lute Book (c.1590), David Willcocks's setting was written for the choir of King's College, Cambridge, and was first published in Carols for Choirs in 1961. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Blessed Are They - By Johannes Brahms / arr. Barbara Buehlman

Johannes Brahms was not a religious man in the usual sense of the term, so it should be of no surprise that when he wrote the "German Requiem," it did not follow the prescribed five movement form of the traditional requiem mass, but instead contained seven movements. The first time Brahms combined orchestra with chorus and soloists, it is considered to be his choral masterwork. While the style is unabashedly romantic with all the depth and beauty associated with the music of Brahms, the form is clearly influenced by Handel and reflects Brahms' intensive study of earlier masters. "Blessed Are They" is the sublime first movement of the "German Requeim," and the original version pairs the chorus with the orchestra to create a heavy, somber mood. This skillfully crafted arrangement for concert band has become a staple in literature for developing bands.

A Finnish Rhapsody - Clare Grundman

The opening measured of Clare Grundman's A Finnish Rhapsody are base on Oi kallis Suomenmaa (O Blessed Fatherland), an old South Bothnian melody beloved of the whole Finnish nation. The words of this song epitomize each Finn'snoblest duty, the readiness to sacrifice all in defense of his country's liberty. Next is an episode based on Kesilta (Summer Evening), one of the loveliest of Finnish folk songs, being as delightfully tranquil as the Finnishcountryside. Following this is a section based on the lively folk tune, Talon Tytt (The Country Lass), a mirthful love song about a peasant maid and her swain. This leads into the majestic Finlandia Hymn, created by Jan Sibelius. The work closes with the return of Oh, Blessed Fatherland, with all its strength and grandeur. (5:30)

Jerusalem the Blessed (from Visions) (Flute or Violin Solo with Concert Band and Optional Treble Choir - Score and Parts)

Visions is one of John Rutter's most recent compositions (2016). It was written for violin solo, treble voice choir, strings and harp. This arrangement maintains the violin solo as an option, but it is presented as a flute (and optionally with a movement for alto flute) solo with band. The vocal parts are included as an option, but the arrangement is also scored so that it may be performed without the treble choir. Visions is a tribute to Jerusalem, with the four movements titled: 1. Jerusalem the blessed; 2. Arise, shine; 3. Lament for Jerusalem; 4. Finale: The holy city. A showcase for the soloist, the depth of meaning and feeling in this music will make it an important addition to the repertoire of the Concert/Wind Band.

Blessed Are They - By Roland Barrett

A theme-and-fantasy-variations treatment of the traditional church hymn "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing." A quiet traditional opening introduces a set of fantasy-like episodes, creating a kaleidoscopic musical journey that culminates in a stately chorale treatment of the theme. Brilliant!
