This dramatic composition, crafted into four continous movements, is a musical portrait that reflects nearly 300 years of Ohio history. Shawnee Village, 1730: represented by a haunting recorder solo (or flutes) accompanied by clarinets and a variety of percussion sounds. 1812 Era: Powerful drums introduce The Battle of Thames where Chief Tecumseh lost his life. Portsmouth, 1903: A Copland-like introduction is followed by a lively rendition of original folk music, bringing to life the city of Portsmouth, Ohio at the turn of the 20th century. £115.00NAME PERPETUAL, A (Concert Band) - Pierce, Eseld
Under the leadership of Michael An Gof and Thomas Flamanck, a Cornish host, sometimes estimated to number as many as 15,000, marched to London in protest against excessive taxation. Arriving at Blackheath, they were attacked by the King's army and defeated, and the two rebel leaders were hung, drawn and quartered. On his way to his death, An Gof stated that he would have "a name perpetual and a fame permanent and immortal". A Name Perpetual tells the story of the Rebellion in four connected scenes. The music includes strong elements of the Celtic music tradition, being structured around an old Cornish folk tune. The first scene introduces fragments of the folk theme and reflects the anguish of the Cornish people. The second scene opens with the folk theme on solo piccolo and, as different instruments enter one by one, the march is depicted with its accumulation of forces en route. The march halts suddenly as the Cornishmen discover the unexpected arrival of the English army and the subsequent music portrays the Blackheath Skirmish. In this scene the orchestra is divided into four parts, each working independently to create a sense of chaos, with the stronger elements of the brass and bass instruments representing the English, while the woodwind and saxophones represent the Cornish, struggling to sustain the folk tune throughout the battle. Eventually all the parts come together and the final section is a lament for the lost Cornishmen, fading away to leave only a haunting off-stage trumpet solo.

£244.99Variations on a Pentatonic Theme Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
Rob Goorhuis wrote his Variations on a Pentatonic Theme (1987) for the Royal Wind band of Thorn, conductor Jan Cober. The work consists of five character variations on a pentatonic (five-tone) theme. The basic elements of the theme are the descending minor third and the descending major second, which in the course of the composition build up to a broad melody, unfolding itself in the final variation. The first variation resembles minimal music in its repetitive rhythmic motives. The second variation is explosive in character: rapid broken chords provide a background for soft solo motifs. The third variation is a quiet intermezzo on a slow chorale theme, creating two contrasting moods. The fourth variation is a light-hearted scherzo. The final variation is a brilliant finale with all the necessary ingredients, or, in the composer's words, "the works" Testpiece WMC 2005 Concert Division. 18:00

£33.67Processional from 'A Renaissance Christmas' (Wind Band) Kevin Norbury
VIEW SCORE PDF This exciting and uplifting processional is the first movement of a festive suite, A Renaissance Christmas, written by Kevin Norbury for the Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School Wind Symphony. Based on Personent hodie (On this day earth shall ring), this is a short piece imagining a torchlight Yuletide procession (perhaps bearing the traditional roasted wild boar), using a well-known Christmas melody from the large collection of music compiled in the 16th century called Piae Cantiones (1582). The tune is presented twice with accompanying, related melodic material. Fantasia on a Flemish Sea Song (CB) - Simon Van Hoecke
'Fantasia on a Flemish Sea Song' was commissioned by Jeroen Berwaerts and VLAMO for the gala concert of the European Brass Band Championships 2017. These took place in the Belgian seaside town of Ostend, which explains the choice to make a fantasy on the sailor's song "Al die willen te kap'ren varen". A first reference to the song can be found in a Ghent song collection from 1856 by E. de Coussemaker: "Chants populaires des Flamands de France". The fantasia is faithful to tradition composed in a free form with variation elements and allows the soloist to showcase virtuosity and narrative power.

£68.00A Joyful Noise - Steven Rosenhaus
"A Joyful Noise" was originally commissioned for 2 F horns. The title comes from Psalm 100, which begins (in English) "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!" In early 2022, composer Steven Rosenhaus followed up on a suggestion to make the music, originally for two horns and organ, available to more musicians; he rescored it for two euphoniums or trombones and band, changing nothing substantial except transposing the work to better fit the new ensemble. Though the 1st trumpet's highest note is G and the range of the instruments stay pretty much within the range of a grade 3, the composition is quite syncopated, thus moving its grade level to a 4. This is a great work to explore these rhythms while staying within an accessible range for your band.
