This work is a tribute to the many men and women who have served in the U.S. military and, particularly, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The music begins as if in a mist, with musical fragments gradually being heard, and various images being created. These fragments eventually join to form longer themes that move from sorrow to strength to pride. In the end, a solemn hymn is heard that serves as a benediction with one last call from the trumpet.

Includes:Solemn MarchValse TristeFinaleThe thematic material for the first movement, Solemn March, started life as a coronation procession in Trevor Nunn's legendary production of The Revenger's Tragedy, a notorious Jacobean blood and guts play by Cyril Tourneur. Trevor Nunn was also the director of a much loved production of All's Well That Ends Well, starring Dame Peggy Ashcroft and Harriet Walter, from which the Valse Triste comes, featuring a haunting melody tailor-made for the oboe. The last movement, Finale, is a reworking of the curtain call music for Bill Alexander's amazing production of Richard III starring Antony Sher, who memorably played the role on crutches.

The Woodstock der Blasmusik (Woodstock for Wind Music) is a four-day open air festival that has taken place annually over the last weekend in June in the Upper Austrian community of Ort im Innkreis since 2011. All sorts of bands and ensembles gather to play both traditional and modern wind music. Since its inception, this legendary festival has developed into a great success story. In 2019, Thomas Doss was commissioned to compose this official Woodstock hymn.Duration: 4.30
