    Distortion

Distortion is a fun and unique composition written for young band and electric guitar, inspired by the author's grandson Owen, who plays trumpet and guitar. The piece features electric guitar with distortion, offering an exciting and fresh experience for both band and beginning guitarists. The guitar part, which primarily consists of power chords, includes a short solo that can either be improvised or played as written. A drum set part is included, but it's recommended to feature either the drum set or percussion, not both. This piece is a break from traditional wind band literature and allows for a creative, dynamic performance that will excite both performers and audiences.

Symphony for Wind Ensemble (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stephenson, James M.

The symphony is in four movements. The first movement starts a single triangle note, followed by a guitar strum. The movement anxiously attempts to churn into action, only to be stifled repeatedly by the single triangle note. Finally, with the guitar as inspiration, the main theme gets under way, revealing an almost Spanish, or even Eastern European flavor. Ideas and themes get reworked, developed, repeated and augmented throughout the movement, before finally closing out just as it began, but in reverse: this time guitar followed by triangle. The second movement steals from an angular and shrieking motif of the first, but is presented in opposite fashion: with the warm blend of the low brass. Hints of iconic military symbolism are interspersed throughout this movement, as homage to the commissioning ensemble. The main theme is inverted and awarded to a solo trumpet midway before giving way to a brass fanfare, though not done loudly, but here muted, from afar. The low brass return at the end, fading away to nothing as the bell tolls. The third movement is merely a short interlude - a break, in almost Gershwin-like fashion - from the seriousness of the movements that precede and follow. Lastly, the fourth movement is a wild one: with mixed meters and plentiful percussion penned to propel the movement throughout. The movements' themes are all reworkings of material presented earlier. Santa's Got a Brand New Bag (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Add some fun to your Christmas concerts with this great "funk-rock" arrangement of Jolly Old St. Nicholas. Includes an open solo section for any instrument, to safely improvise over a basic 2-chord vamp, making this a great confidence builder for your young improv soloists. The very effective guitar part is written so that it can be played by either guitar or a synthesizer. It's fun, easy to prepare, and sure to be a real "showstopper" at any holiday season performance! Unique!

Winter Scene (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

A depiction of a cold, snowbound winter scene. This work was written shortly after the composer I finished a little piece called Summer Song. Winter Scene originally started life as a guitar piece but was expanded in several ways when casting it for wind band. Without looking for specific imagery, the composer imagined something like the snowbound scenes found in the Renaissance art of Pieter Breugel the Elder d. 1569. The music begins with some icy dissonance in the brass before the slow processional of the tune is first stated. There is some contrasting material in the middle which changes colour and key before the main theme returns with its slightly acerbic accompaniment.Duration: 3.30

Dance Suite (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

Dance Suite comprises three dances - Femme Fatale (a tango), Midnight Wish (a rumba) and Wherever I look (a Mambo). The first two movements are fairly straightforward but the mambo is a little more difficult and also requires 4 rather than three trumpets - the fourth part being included in the first trumpet part in the complete suite. The music works best with a string bass or a bass guitar but the bass line is fully cued in the tuba part. Each of the movements is also available separately.Duration: 11.00

Please Don't Go (Concert Band - Score only) - Wiffin, Rob

There could easily be a backstory for this piece. It is ostensibly a Latin dance at samba tempo but it is slightly tinged with a sense of wistfulness and heartache and it is easy to work out where the imploring words of the title Please don't go fit into the melody. It is not technically difficult to play although it needs an appropriate sense of style and rhythm. Parts are comprehensively cued and the piece works without a bass guitar although it is desirable if possible. Similarly, not all the percussion instruments are vital although they add considerably to the feel of the music if you have them.

Seven Nation Army (Flexible Ensemble - Score and Parts) - White, Jack - Storlokken, Jarle

Seven Nation Army was written in 2003 by Jack White for American band The White Stripes. The song was the opening track of their fourth record album Elephant. After this, the characteristic guitar riff has been synonymous with the band. The song has been used both in both political contexts and various sport events like the FIFA World Cup in 2018. It was awarded the 2004 Grammy for Best Rock Song and has also figured on several best of lists of songs from that decade.Duration: 3.45
