Score and Parts. This light overture was written for a contest for both wind and brass bands held in Langenthal and funded by the Berne Music Association. It opens slowly and majestically and, after a climax, includes a section in free time for the trumpets and a cadenza for the euphonium. A lively, toe-tapping allegro follows with a central legato melody and a final flourish that recalls the opening fanfares. Tanczi Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
This suite was written in the style of traditional Russian folk music, but does not use existing melodies or themes as its basis. The colourful and varied work contains a number of surprising turns, but also familiar sounds. After the introduction, a kind of Trepak follows ? a fairly quick dance with attractive themes. The second movement (Garovot) is predominantly slow and conveys some melancholy, although, during a more dynamic passage the passion flares up again. Finally, the Troika takes us along in a reindeer sleigh through a grand snowy landscape. This is a wonderful tribute to the music of Eastern Europe in the style of some of the great Russian masters. 0:13:30

Max Steiner was born in Vienna in 1888, and grew up surrounded by music. He was a student of the Imperial Academy of Music, having among his teachers Gustav Mahler. In 1936 he signed an agreement with Warner. Steiner, considered the father of symphonic music in Hollywood style. One of his most famous and popular masterworks is, without any doubt, Gone with the Wind (1939). The movie was an immediate success and won ten Academy Awards. In spite of the years passed, this movie still moves young audiences around the world. Gro?er Gott, wir loben dich is a well-known German hymn, written by Ignaz Franz in the 18th century but based on the 4th century Te Deum laudamus. After a radiant introduction by the brass section, the first variation on the chorale appears. Subsequently, the song is rendered in its original form. Then three more variations follow.
