A Mother's Love (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Ciechomski, Brad

A mother's love is boundless, never-ending, gentle, and caressing. Written upon the passing of the composer's mother, this composition opens with a pure and simple melodic statement that later opens into the warmth of the full ensemble sound, much like the comfort of a mother's embrace. The opening interval of the minor third is often heard by a child calling mom-my, and the piece closes with the bells playing this motive. The composer dedicates this piece to the memory of his mother, who always believed in his hopes and dreams.Duration: 4.15

The Seal Lullaby (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Whitacre, Eric

This loving and dreamlike work captures the undulating rhythm of a mother rocking her child to sleep. The piece was inspired by classic Rudyard Kipling: "Oh! Hush thee, my baby, the night is behind us, And black are the waters that sparkled so green. The moon, o'er the combers, looks downward to find us, At rest in the hollows that rustle between." Two Famous Carols (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Dix & Hopkins - Phillippe, Roy

Two Famous Carols is a duo of cherished holiday carols in wildly diverse styles. "What Child Is This?," composed in 1865 by 29-year-old William Chatterton Dix, begins with the beautiful sound of a solo horn, while "We Three Kings," composed by reverend John Henry Hopkins, Jr. in the mid-1850s, is presented in the style of a jazz-waltz.Duration: 3.30

Through a Child's Eyes (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bernotas, Chris M.

Through a Child's Eyes is a composition with reflection on the innocence of a child, the discovery of the world around them and the peacefulness of a sleeping baby. After the somewhat bold introduction, the first theme brings a simple sense of comfort. The trumpets then stand proudly with a feeling of strength and confidence. After a climax we are led to a slightly contemplative section. The ending is filled with a recapitulation of the main theme accompanied with the music box. Rest and comfort come through with the sounding of the final chord.Duration: 3.45

Czardas (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hart, Paul

Some time ago Charles Hine, a dear friend, asked me 'Isn't it about time you wrote a Czardas?' It wasn't such a silly idea. I'd studied violin as a child and having learnt numerous show pieces in that style I felt quite at home with the genre. Later in my youth I was lucky enough to work occasionally as accompanist to a lovely lady & singer Eve Boswell, who was partly Hungarian, and was generous enough to give me further insight into the nature of Czardas. Whilst the Wind Ensemble is not the instrumentation one might expect for such a piece the form is albeit rather more long-winded than some of the fiddle 'lollypops'.' - Hart, Paul.

A Flemish Christmas (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hadermann, Jan

In A Flemish Christmas, Jan Hadermann tells the Christmas story by means of four Old Flemish Christmas Songs. Mary is chosen to bring Jesus Christ, the son of God, into the world: Het was een maged uitverkoren ('She was a virgin chosen'). On the occasion of a census, Mary, who is with child, and Joseph, her husband to be, travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where Jesus will be born in a humble stable: Maria die zoude naar Bethlehem gaan (Mary would go to Bethlehem'). O kerstnacht, schoner dan de dagen ('Oh Christmas Night, more beautiful than the days') is a stately chorale that sings the praises of Jesus' birth. Three wise men from the East, Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar, follow a bright star in the sky, which leads them to Bethlehem. There, they worship the new-born King, and offer him gold, frankincense and myrrh: Wij komen van Oosten (We've come from the East'). This musical Christmas story ends with a festive repeat of the third movement, the stately chorale.Duration: 6:30
