£224.99Les Marteaux de la Marine - Rob Goorhuis
Les Marteaux de La Marine was composed in 1999 as a commission by the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The composition contains three static elements which interchange. Static in this case means that development of the material isnot pursued (by the composer). The first element with which the piece begins is tranquil and colourful. The second element is sharp and incisive, while the third expresses energy. In all elements a repeated tone is the starting point whichexplains the hammers in the works title.The instrumentation is richly variegated with a harp also determining the palette of colours in the slower movements. The composition opens with an atmospheric Larghetto containing fine harmonies in thesoft and subtly moving wood-winds. The introduction breathes an impressionistic atmosphere in which expressive cantilenas and soloistic agile motifs stand out. A strong setting is followed by an Allegro virtuoso containing fast motifs contrasted withshort and rhythmic stars of the various instrumental sections. Trumpets and horns add a virtuoso bugle-call motif. After a short stringendosection, the transparent Larghetto returns with a varied setting of the opening elements. The beautifulleading roles in this section are reserved for cornet (trumpet) and horn. Subsequently, the flashing Vivo starts with continuous movements in triplets from both wood-winds and brass. Next, the opening Allegro re-appears once again and thus LesMarteaux de la Marine ends with a fast and virtuoso climax. Les Marteaux de La Marine was selected as a compulsory grade 6 contest piece for symphonic bands in the Netherlands.

The rhythm of the samba was originally created in Africa and brought to Brazil by the slaves . Here it became the national dance. For every festive occasion and especially the carnival festivities (Rio de Janeiro) samba music is played. The World's Fair in New York (1939) was the reason to the biggest spread of the samba. The trumpet section gets an opportunity to feature in Ever so Samba. Together with the swinging percussion section they let you enjoy a South American party.

This composition, based on the hymn Praise to the Lord, is comprised of eight separate parts that can be played together as a concert piece or opening work. The A and B sections are different openings, C is four-part arrangement of the hymn, D is a solo for four saxophones, or two trumpets and two trombones, E is a calm intermezzo, F a solo for trumpet or cornet, and G and F finally are a majestic or peaceful closing section. Summer Dances - Adam Gorb
'Summer Dances' is a joyful work in three short movements celebrating my favourite season where people are happiest outdoors. Each movement is a celebration the first movement 'Summer Day' celebrates the open air, with a bold and arrogant melody in 10/8 time, whose rhythm dominates the movement. The next movement 'Summer Night' could be described as a 'Beach Habanera' led by a sensuous trumpet melody. The movement ends with an ambiguous harmonic build-up, which is resolved at the start of the finale 'Summer Party' with a folk like theme that is passed round the ensemble, building up, (with suggestions of the first movement theme) to a riotous and festive ending. Summer Dances was commissioned by HAFABRA Music, Louis Martinus in collaboration with Biblioservice Gelderland/Music department MUI, Arhnhem, the Netherlands. Regarding interpretation suggestions: Movement 1) Lively but not too fast very much a piece for the full ensemble, up until the final six bars when things become more subtle and intimate maybe sunset.... Movement 2) Very laid back and sexy. The movement should be thought of as a wonderfully promising 'first date' or 'wedding night', with great possibilities with the unresolved chord at the end of the movement.... Movement 3) As fast as is comfortably possible. The start should be delicate and chamber music like, but increase in general excitement, particularly from figure 31. Something should be saved up for a true fortissimo at 34.

El Cid was the name of the legendary knight and folk hero Rodrigo D az de Vivar Cameador, the man who never lost a duel. After a typically Spanish opening, a slower section follows in which the composer makes reference to Albinoni'sAdagio and to the slow movement from Joaqu n Rodrigo's Concierto d'Aranjuez. The music is whipped up with Spanish passion at the close, and castanets are a must! The solo part can be played by trumpet, flugelhorn, cornet oralto saxophone and is also available in a simplified version.
