Cold Brook March (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - O'Reilly, John

Cold Brook March is perfect for your band's first Concert. The ranges are comfortable for all instruments and the second clarinets never cross the break. Fun, syncopated rhythms provide a great deal of interest throughout. Short percussion solos introduce both the first strain and the second strain which is in the contrasting relative minor key. The break up strain pits the woodwinds against the brass with the percussion section holding it all together.Duration: 2.30

Classic March Duo (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Clarke & Schubert - O'Reilly, John

Two popular marches from the classical repertoire are paired together in this wonderful new arrangement. Jeremiah Clarke's (1674-1707) Trumpet Voluntary was originally written for organ and trumpet and is frequently heard as a processional at wedding ceremonies. Franz Schubert's (1797- 828) Marche Militaire was originally written as a piano duet but has been reset for various instrumental ensembles. This effective arrangement gives the young student an opportunity to perform two of the most famous marches of all time.Duration: 2.00

Awake the Iron (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Watson, Scott

Desperta Ferro!, or "Awake the iron!" was the battle cry of Medieval Spanish soldiers called the Almogavars. In the dim light of dawn, as they prepared for battle, these fierce soldiers would beat their swords on rocks shouting this phrase. The sparks that flew from the rocks in the eerie light of dawn, together with the soldier's call to arms, would give any enemy pause. Awake the Iron, with its insistent unisons, energetic rhythms, modal themes, and powerful percussive writing, mirrors the ferocious intensity of the medieval battlefield. This mature sounding, yet approachable work, is sure to be a favourite of both the musicians and audience.Duration: 3.30

Overture on French Carols (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Lane, Philip - Noble, Paul

The idea for this work sprang from a visit to Bayeux in the weeks before Christmas in 2001 when carols were being played through loudspeakers in the streets to accompany seasonal shoppers. The overture was premiered by the BBC Concert Orchestra in 2003 and subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3. The work has been commercially recorded by the Royal Ballet Sinfonia conducted by Gavin Sutherland. The carols employed in this overture are: Il est n, le divin enfant, Patapan, Nol nouvelet, Quelle est cette odeur agreeable, and Masters in this hall. Some are brought together in the final section with Quittez, pasteurs as additional counterpoint in the horns. This piece will be an important addition to seasonal repertoire, and certainly in a setting that will be fresh and inspiring for audiences.

Walzerzauber (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Watz, Franz

The genre operetta (literally meaning 'small opera') originated halfway through the 19th century, as an antidote to the ever-lengthening opra comique, which by that time contained more and more tragic intrigues as well. In this charming work, three waltz melodies from different operettas come together. First, we hear 'Lippen schweigen' from Die lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow) by Franz Lhar (1870-1948). Then follows 'Ja, das alles auf Ehr' from Der Zigeunerbaron (The Gypsy Baron) by Johann Strauss the younger (1825-1899), after which 'Tanzen mchte ich' from Die Czardasfrstin by Emmerich Klmn (1882-1953) closes the medley in a cheerful way. Franz Watz has skilfully connected the waltzes to become a magical whole.Duration: 4:30

The American Road (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brubaker, Jerry

This piece for symphonic band by Jerry Brubaker is a musical excursion into the American driving experience. From majestic mountain vistas and wide open spaces to the hustle and bustle of rush hour traffic. There is even a section about the beloved covered bridge. Find one and there's bound to be an interesting little two lane country road leading up to it. The piece is designed around just two themes which are tied together in the final section which the composer calls "Our Favorite Road".
