Its been known by several different titles, including Oh, Shenandoah and Across the Wide Missouri. Clearly a part of American tradition, it remains one of Americas most enduring and popular folk songs. This arrangement has been carefully arranged for the ability of young players but will also sound great with more experienced ensembles as a warm-up or lyric concert selection.

Shock Wave is a high-energy piece, driven by a constant sense of propulsion and rippling waves of motion. The initial shock wave is provided by percussion, leading into a tension-filled section with multiple layers of sound scattered throughout. Each new entrance or wave is accompanied by solo percussion which builds to a frenzied, swirling state. Layer upon layer of musical pressure builds until the final resolution with the percussion getting the last word, providing one final "aftershock" for a decisive finish.

All the hustle and bustle you'd expect are vividly showcased by the percussion section. This fun adaption of "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" is given a special twist by using numerous sound effects (anvil, woodblock, duck call, vibra-slap, train whistle, triangle, ratchet, siren/whistle, and bells) to represent the assembling of toys in Santa's toy shop. A really fun selection for that holiday concert, featuring the percussion section with a lot of different sounds from Santa's toys. Good performances demonstrate good dynamic contrasts.
