    Appalachian Journey - Brant Karrick

The Appalachians represented one of America's first frontiers, and frontier music became one of the first truly American forms of musical expression. Based on traditional fiddle tunes, Appalachian Journey combines four folk songs, providing players and the audience with a real toe-tapping treat! The melodies included are: "After the Battle of Aughrim" and "Lord Mayo I," both Irish in origin, and "Bonaparte Crossing the Rocky Mountains" along with "Whiskey Before Breakfast," adapted from the old-time fiddling tradition.

Walking the Dog - George Gershwin

Walking the Dog is one of the many songs George Gershwin wrote for the film "Shall We Dance." George Gershwin at the height of his powers. Instead of the bustling, complex symphonic scores he was now accustomed to writing, it is a simple, elegant little walk, as the title suggests. In the 1937 film, it accompanies a scene of (you guessed it) walking a little dog, aboard the luxurious deck of a cruise ship. Since it was heard in the film, however, the tune has taken on a life of its own and has become a popular piece for clarinetists around the world. In 1960, the song was published as "Promenade." Interestingly, it is also the only part of the film score of "Shall We Dance" that remains - the rest of the film's music unfortunately remains unpublished there are not even any recordings.

    Super Trouper - Benny Andersson

This song by ABBA is the core of the European disco-sound in the eighties. It was released in 1980 when ABBA was in its superstardom. A good tune with almost a sing-along guarantee from the audience. This arrangement in the Young Band series is suitable for many bands as the instrumentation is limited in its demand to number of instruments. In the same series several ABBA items are available, and this piece can be programmed alongside other ABBA songs from the same series. This arrangement is similar to the original in form. The semiquavers in the tuba part may be omitted as they also are covered in the baritone part.

    Evening Rise - Bert Appermont

This work is based on five folk songs from different cultures. Each song brings its own atmosphere and character, giving rise to a musical journey across the world in one continuous whole. Featuring Evening Rise (America), Lo Yisa Goy (Israel), Sakura (Japan), Finnegans Wake (Ireland) and Siyahamba (South Africa). The Native American song Evening Rise functions as a sort of chorus and thus creates a certain unity; each time the melody is arranged in a different way.

Quebec Folk Rhapsody - Robert Buckley

The rich heritage of French-Canadian folk music dates back several centuries. Robert has chosen three of these songs to create a musical portrait of this colorful culture. The opening piece is the jaunty and dance-like Monsieur Lecur, followed by the hauntingly beautiful Blanche Comme la Neige. The piece concludes with the spirited march Vive la Canadienne!, which features a drum break and builds to an exciting, rousing finish. The creative use of harmonizations, key changes and dynamic contrasts gives this piece a sophisticated sound and intensity of a much more advanced piece. Dur: 3:35
