The alto saxophone and trumpet are featured as soloists, but the piece also show-cases the tuba- and percussion sections.The piece works especially well as a concert opener (or the first piece after an interval). One can start the piece with only the triangle-player on stage, and the rest of the band can take their places and join in when ready.Storbystev was written for the Oslofjord Brass Band and their participation in the Siddis Brass entertainment contest in Stavanger in 1996. The band won the first section that year.Published with support from Norwegian Society of Composers.

Le Cygne - Camille Saint-Saens
Le carnaval des animaux (The Carnival of the Animals) is a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by French composer Camille Saint-Sans. Le Cygne is the 13th movement of the suite, originally scored for two pianos and cello: the lushly romantic cello solo (which evokes the swan elegantly gliding over the water) is played over rippling sixteenths in one piano and rolled chords in the other (said to represent the swan's feet, hidden from view beneath the water, propelling it along). It has become a staple of the cello repertoire and one of the most well-known movements of the suite. Many other arrangements of this movement have also been published, with solo instruments ranging from flute to alto saxophone. Dutch arranger Andreas van Zoelen arranged this movement for solo cello with accompaniment of a small Wind Ensemble.

Musica Festiva - Menno Bosgra
This 3-part work begins with a martial and heroic theme where the brass and drums play an important role. A second melodic theme contrasts with the first, although elements of the first theme remain clearly present and they in turn provide a link to the second, calmer movement which is introduced with a splendid solo on the saxophone. You can hear fragments of the first part here too.In the third part, the small drum begins to play the background theme and is followed by a grand group of brass instruments playing a heavy concert march which, after an increase of tempo, gradually ends in a grand finale which refers once again to the initial theme.
