Scored for trumpet soloist Wynton Marsalis, Donald Hunsberger's band accompaniment arrangement of Fantasie Brillante No. 3 in Jean-Baptiste Arban's collection of Fantasias and Variations possesses a breadth of musical styles that demand strict formal analysis in addition to interpretative and technical requirements. The opening section features a flowing melodic passage followed by a technical passage with a return to the style of the opening melody. The theme is then stated which leads into three variations that employ variants in triplet groupings, quadruple 16th-note groupings, and finally, the ever-present triple tonguing, once again a primary technical resource utilized in this and others of the Fantasias.

Frida's Whiskers Wind Band Set (Score & Parts)
David Well composed 'Frida's Whiskers' in commemoration of his own cat, who met an untimely end. Frida (whose real name was 'Godefrida van Coopersburg thoe Nieuwenhuys') was a lively creature, who led a playful and uncomplicated life. She used to sleep in her basket for hours, but when she woke up she upset the entire house and its furnishing. Curtains were inspected from top to bottom and flower pots fell from window-sills just like that! Outside, in the open air she was in her element. She used to frolic, bouncing into the air. After such playful moods she would return to her basket tired but satisfied where, being the cleanly cat that she was, she subjected her entire body, whiskers included, to a thorough wash. 04:30

Back in the day I always enjoyed playing the well-known trombone works by Alexandre Guilmant and Ferdinand David and I wanted to return to that type of language and writing in a short concert piece. The music is direct in its expression, mostly exciting but sometimes expressive. The pace of this tude is relentless and requires some deft double tonguing although I stayed away from too many running semiquavers. The last note should ideally be the high D (concert) but a B flat is indicated as a suitable alternative.- Rob WiffinDuration: 3.45

Il Presidente is a humorous march depicting a president's appearance before his people! The president's convoy is accompanied by a grand fanfare as he pulls up in his car. The people cheer and wave as the president starts to deliver his speech. Slowly their mood begins to shift and they become restless. Finally bored, the people begin to drift away. The finale accompanies people as they return to the city in search of more interesting ways in which to spend their time.
