Festival and Ballade For Winds - Travis J. Weller
Festival and Ballade for Winds was written for the 2009 Pittsburgh Diocesean Honor Band hosted by Bishop Canevin High School. The opening fanfare contains a number of melodic fragments out of which the rest of the work grows and develops. The Allegro Spiritoso at the beginning of the piece gives way to a lush and reflective Ballade section in which there are wonderful moments for dynamic expression by the ensemble. There are a number of solo/small group performance opportunities which occur before the percussion ushers in a return to the original tempo, followed by a brief development section that leads to an energetic and uplifting conclusion.

Turkish Fragments - Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov
Pursuing his interest in the Turkish peoples, the composer created this work for orchestra in 1930. It is a richly melodic suite notable for its characteristically oriental turns of phrase. This work is presented in four movements: Caravan, which depicts a steady journey over rolling sand dunes; At Rest, alternately tranquil and spirited; Night, serene in nature with a slight touch of mystery; and Festival, a dance-like finale with unyielding exuberance. All the movements use material from folk music of the region combined with a wonderful pallet of wind-instrumental colors. An exotic and colorful Turkish fabric in music.

Merry Wayfaring Stranger
Tyler Arcari has a knack for smashing un-related tunes together, especially for Christmas! This clever new addition to Tyler's chaotic caroling is no exception. Musicians will love the drama in this work, as they mix Poor Wayfaring Stranger with the likes of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Patapan. This will be the star of your next holiday program!

Rockology - Sandy Feldstein
This enjoyable rock-styled piece makes much of a simple syncopated figure and will help to instill good counting habits in a young band. The percussion parts are musically active, but the rest of the band uses only the first 6 notes that are taught to beginners. The resulting piece is great fun to play but easy to prepare. Duration: 2'15"

Carol Of The Bells - Mykola D. Leontovich
One of the most popular of all Christmas carols is presented here in the simplist arrangement for a beginning band's first Christmas concert. Larry also uses "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" as part of the arrangement and at one point combines them together for a great effect.

Legacy of Honor - Larry Clark
This piece drives from the start with bold trumpet flourishes and interjections from the rest of the band. After the exciting first section, a lyrical second theme departs to something beautiful and lush in harmonic structure. The development section is based on the opening theme, eventually leading the piece back, followed by a dynamic brass flourish in the coda. A solid choice by a known composer for contests and festivals.
