Its slow opening features the sax section and then proceeds to a rhythmic triplet figure which gradually accelerates to a furious tempo at the conclusion. The title of the piece is actually Lesghinka as it has been taken from the Iveria Suite of Ippolitov-Ivanov. Tight ensemble playing, rustic percussion parts and exciting technical parts make this a piece to demonstrate the control of an ensemble.

The opening motif played by the entire ensemble in the first measure is fundamental for the entire work. Performed at one tempo throughout, this piece emphasizes essential dynamic contrasts and the various ways a theme can be developed in a composition.
