Tuba Libre! was commissioned by Eirik Gjerdevik, Tubaist with the Norwegian Navy Band Bergen and also widely sought after as a soloist and conductor.The work is the first major work the composer wrote for Brass Band.Eirik Gjerdevik recorded the work on his album "Eirik the Viking", a recording which also feature Stavanger Brass Band conducted by Morten E. Hansen. The album was released by Lawo Classics in 2014 (LWC 1064).The version for Concert Band was also premiered by Eirik Gjerdevik, this time conducted by the composer.

"Kerberos" was written to Norwegian band Eidanger Pike- og guttekorps, Sigurd Skramsett conductor.When Sigurd Skramsett got in touch and wanted to commision a piece for their anniversary concert in November, I immediately thought of composing a piece about his role in the local bands. He has conducted the band for 15 years and has been important to the whole banding community in Telemark, Norway. My meeting with Sigurd in the summer of 2019 was at Dirigentuka (Conductors week) in Stavanger. We conducted many different types of music, including a blues by Torstein Aagard-Nilsen. All of the music at the course has inspired me in this piece.The name Sigurd originates from Norse mythology and means 'victory' and 'guardian'. KERBEROS is the three-headed dog guarding the entrance to the underworld of Greek mythology. Three heads, representing the past, present and future, became three movements representing three styles, and moods, in this work.Kjetil Djnne

"Sabor Caribeo" means "Taste of Caribbean". This original composition is written by Norwegian composer Sverre Indris Joner who has studied Caribbean music since mid-80s.The music presents traditional elements from Cuban and Puerto Rico. Polyrhytmics is an important part of the music which consist of up to four melody lines at the same time.It's recommended that both conductor and the percussionists study the rhythm patterns very closely. Especially congas and timbales which vary patters a lot. The role of the guiro must not be underrated.It is possible to simplify the percussion parts by choosing some patterns and play these for longer periods than written.

"Candles in Advent" is a beautiful melody with great lyrics. It was originally written for an Norwegian Advent TV-series in 1985.In this arrangement, the oboe has some solo passages (cue notes in flute). I Have tried to vary the instrumentation without going beyond the beautiful Christmas mood.The harmonization is simple and functional. Let the soloists "speak" with good phrasing and focus also on harmony in the unison melody lines. Good balance and intonation in the accompaniment can make the performance a little gem on the Christmas concert.- Reid Gilje -

"Sle Jolekveld" was arranged for Kongelige Norske Marines Musikkorps (The Royal Norwegian Navy Band) for their CD-recording "Julestemning"(2009) featuring Solveig Kringlebotn as soprano soloist and the choir of Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Ingar Bergby.The arrangement works very well for a collaborative concert for band and SATB choir and possible soprano soloist. However it will also work well also for concert band alone.

Wave was written by Brazilian composer and musician Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1967. This arrangement was written for Norwegian Concert Band Kampen Janitsjarorkester.Wave is simply a bossa nova tune with a latin/jazz flavour. The Drum set and Percussion is responsible for the right groove, while the winds performs a mix of long, melodic lines and rhythmic structures.
