£91.20San Patrizio - Lorenzo Pusceddu
Since 1166, the only sanctuary in Italy dedicated to the memory of Saint Patrick has sat in Colzate. Numerous people visit this sacred place every year, also to admire the extraordinary view from its portico and the luxurious nature that surrounds it. The sanctuary seems to be shaped by nature itself, as its walls blend with the rock on which it rests. The building of this sacred place is associated with the trade relations that the inhabitants of the Seriana Valley shared with merchants from Ireland. It took centuries for the sanctuary to become what we see today: the construction of its nucleus began in the 12th century and ended with the erection of the current portico. This composition depicts in music the veneration that the people of Colzate and neighboring villages have for Saint Patrick. The ternary form recalls the symbol of the clover (in Gaelic Shamrock), with which Saint Patrick explained the Trinity to the people of Ireland.

This original trombone feature, a "smear" for trombones, was written in memory of C. Jack McCurley, a young, energetic, fun-loving trombone player who lost his life in an accident. He was a member of his middle school band in Jefferson City, Missouri, and his fellow students and teachers commissioned this work as a memorial to him. But they wanted a happy piece because he was a happy person.

Composed in honor of the memory of Ray Wofford who directed the high school band in Wilmington, Ohio, for many years. His commitment to young musicians was legendary and the dramatic and majestic opening pays tribute to a life well-lived by a man who gave so much to his students. Fragments of his favorite hymn, Amazing Grace, are used throughout before the final and exhilarating close brings about a sense of joy celebrating the personality and energy he dedicated to the teaching profession.

Bright Shining as the Sun was commissioned by the Poplar Bluff, Missouri High School Band in honor of Kyle Dicken, who perished while trying to save his younger brother from a tragic house fire. As a band member, Kyle played the tuba and trombone and was a dedicated and popular member of the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Marching Band. The hymn tune Amazing Grace is used throughout the work, both as a motive during the fast sections and in its entirety during the expressive middle section. As a tribute to his memory this work was played by members of the Poplar Bluff Band at Kyles memorial service.

A popular song or striking melody can be a key to unlocking distant memories, and for a brief instant create a circle in time. The evocative music of this work appears at times in melodic swirls that seem to float in from the distance as memories sometimes occur. Light but persistent percussion creates a subtle yet unyielding background for wind lines that seem to travel through passageways of sounds as though traveling through time itself.
