£156.00A Midsummer Night's Dream (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Mendelssohn, Felix - De Meij, Johan
Suite from the Incidental Music. Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809 - 1847) composed the music for William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream at two different times. In 1826, at the age of 16, he wrote a concert overture (Op. 21). Sixteen years later, in 1842, he composed the incidental music (opus 61) for King Frederick William IV of Prussia, in which he incorporated the existing overture. The overture premiered in Stettin (then in Prussia, now Szczecin, Poland) on February 20, 1827, conducted by Carl Loewe. Mendelssohn had to travel 80 miles through a raging snowstorm to get to the concert, which became his first public appearance. The first British performance of the overture was conducted by Mendelssohn himself on June 24, 1829, at the Argyll Rooms in London. After the concert, Thomas Attwood was given the score of the overture for safekeeping, but left it in a taxi and was never found. Mendelssohn later rewrote the overture entirely from memory.Duration: 14.45

£72.99Sea of Clouds (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Buckley, Robert
3rd Movement of The Seas of the Moon. The third movement of Robert Buckley's grandly cinematic suite describing impressions of the "seas" of the moon, Sea of Clouds was inspired by a series of paintings done by Claude Monet in the London fog. Monet captured the gradations of light as it was affected by fog with ghostly images sifting through. This movement is mostly subdued and dreamlike, the music ebbing and flowing and eventually building to a vast wall of sound and then dissolving into silence. Duration: 5:00

£110.00Prelude to Richard III (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Walton, William - Noble, Paul
In 1955, Walton received two honorary doctorates: from the Universities of Cambridge and London. He also composed this Shakespeare film music for Laurence Olivier, Richard III, one of three Shakespearean film scores by Walton. The music in Prelude to Richard III is not duplicated in A Shakespeare Suite from Richard III which follows next in sequence. Each piece is a complement to the other, and would be a perfect pair on a concert program.

£48.00Poem for Band (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Tatgenhorst, John
Poem for Band is based on a beautiful melody that is shared by flutes, clarinets and trumpets. The low brass and woodwinds enrich the performance with expressive use of dynamics. This music was first written for the London Symphony Orchestra as part of an orchestral suite and has been beautifully adapted for band by the composer.
