Sahara takes you on a journey to the largest desert in the world. Located in the north of the African continent, it covers eight million square kilometres and spreads across ten nations. The work describes the various landscapes that the Sahara has to offer, using different instrumental groups to underline different characteristics. Both an intense rhythmic passage with lots of percussion, as well as a chorale part with beautiful brass segments, make this a wonderful yet challenging piece. It also allows you to work on different technical aspects with your band and is suitable for a concert or a contest. Duration: 4.00

In July, 2013, the wreckage of a commercial schooner named Atlas was discovered in Lake Ontario in nearly 300 feet of water just outside the Port of Oswego, NY. The Atlas was carrying a load of limestone meant for the U.S. government harbour in Oswego on the day of its fateful journey in May, 1839. Only two miles from port, a gale-force wind rocked the ship and its heavy load shifted, causing the vessel to sink and all of its crew members to perish. This piece was written to portray the majesty of Lake Ontario as well as the brave sailors, young and old, who navigated her volatile waters.Duration: 5.00

NASA's Apollo program is known for landing the first humans on the moon in 1969. In this composition, your dauntless adventure begins with a powerful lift off. Once achieved, the main theme is presented by flutes, oboe, and then trumpets, with stabilizers provided by baritone, tenor sax, and eventually the remainder of the crew. Stage 1 boosters (a strong, rhythmic accompaniment) provide the propulsion needed to voyage through to a sea of tranquillity (lyrical section). In Greek mythology, Helios is a Titan who faithfully drove the Sun's chariot across the sky each day, disappearing in the west into Oceanus (the ocean, which the Greeks believed encircled the Earth), and rising out of it again in the east the next morning. Helios' journey at sunrise is referenced musically by the ascending leap in the main theme and the strong driving rhythms of the low winds and percussion. The contrasting light and dark textures in the slow section depict twilight inevitably giving way to the darkness of night.Duration: 2:45

In 1933 he was commissioned by the Soviet Union to compose music for a film of the same name and he later adapted this music into an orchestral suite that has since become highly popular. 'Troika', which forms the 4th movement of this 5 movement suite, was composed to give the impression of a fast winter's journey on a troika which is a traditional sleigh pulled by three horses. With the inclusion of sleigh-bells in the orchestration it has been often associated with the Christmas period and still is to this day.
