The ever-flowing waters of the rivers introduce the slow, melodic middle section, which suddenly turns into traditional march music. This composition musically reveals the secrets of the former Duchy of Savoy. The slow, almost magical beginning describes the beautiful mountain location of the merged villages of La Motte-Servolex. The vastness of the Alps is echoed in the lyrical theme, which is followed by a faster, march-like section. After the romantic, almost religious middle section, the fast motif returns and the composition ends with a blissful final theme.

Concordia was the Roman goddess of concord or unity. To convey the unity among their musicians, many music societies over the years, including the band that commissioned this composition, have chosen this name. The literal translation of Color Concordia is color harmony. Consequently, the composer has gratefully used the many ranges of coloring of the concert band for the instrumentation of this work. He based the thematic material on the four note names in Concordia: C, C, D and A, resulting in a brilliant piece of music that will suit any band.

These days, many concert bands celebrate their centenary - this provided a good reason to compose the Centennial Celebration. This work has a festive, harmonious and optimistic vibe. A joyful introduction is followed by a lyrical passage with an enticing melody, after which the same theme can be heard in a pop style variation. Next is a kind of trio with a melody that will linger in your mind. Lively sounds bring us back to the lyrical main theme once more, but this time exuberant, like a pop ballad. Finally, we hear the festive sounds of the introduction again, now as a lustrous conclusion.

Cittaslow is an international network of more than 220 towns in 30 countries. Its members are towns where people are still finding themselves reminiscing over the old times; towns that are rich in theatres, squares, cafs, restaurants and spiritual places; towns with untouched landscapes and charming craftsman where people are still able to recognize the slow course of the seasons, and respect their authentic products, true taste as well as their health. The Hymn of Cittaslow, which was commissioned by the organisation itself, is entirely inspired by their commitment to the preservation of the member towns. The tempo is naturally 'slow', and the themes somehow soundfamiliar. On the one hand, the music emanates peace and quiet, but it also sounds grand in its lyricism, thereby reflecting the beauty of the Cittaslow towns.

The work Pilgrims of Wolfryt tells the story of the legend Walfridus (also known as Wolfryt), a resident of the town of Bedum in the Netherlands who was born in the 11th century. Wilfridus had an eventful life: he introduced Christianity to Bedum and helped the town build its first legal system, but ultimately his story ended in demise murdered alongside his son at the hands of the Vikings. Pilgrims of Wolfryt is a symphonic poem-like masterpiece, full of evocative melodies in a mix of tonalities to make the most of the impressive rhythmic material.

£139.99A Man's Destiny - Jan de Haan
A Man's Destiny has the Frisian line 'Yn Ieren en Sinen' ('with much conviction') as its subtitle. The work was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (based in Friesland, The Netherlands) to acknowledge their 95th anniversary. The composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band, who played flugelhorn in the ensemble until the age of 86. Their favourite piece of music, 'Canon' by Thomas Tallis, provided a great deal of musical inspiration for this characteristic and versatile work.
