Klezmer music originated in the shtetl (villages) and ghettos of Eastern Europe, where itinerant Jewish troubadours, known as klezmorim, had performed at celebrations since the early Middle Ages. The distinctive Howard Cable brass quintet arrangement, on which this concert band arrangement is based, has long been in the repertory of the Canadian Brass.
