This breathtaking arrangement of Shenandoah was created at the request of well-known 'Pops' conductor Michael Krajewski and was premiered in late summer, 2004, by the Houston Symphony Orchestra. This new setting for band makes a stunning addition to any concert program. Numerous soloists are featured in this sweeping, lyric setting of the famous folksong melody with a panoramic, 'Americana' feel. Jnos Galli (1921-2006) was a conductor, composer, music teacher, a well-known and highly respected personality in Hungarian wind music life. As a music teacher he directed numerous string and wind ensembles and choirs, made hundreds of transcriptions for wind orchestras, and instrumented works for ensembles of all sizes and formations. The most important of his works are his series of volumes of marches, folksong arrangements and church music. He was excellent at instrumentation. For its fine sound and easy playability we recommend to youth wind bands and their conductors this work of his composed in memory of the king who founded the Hungarian state.

The title of this clever arrangement reveals the Christmas song it is based on. The melody can be traced back to a French folksong from the 18th century which is now known around the world. In France it is called Les anges dans nos campagnes, in Germany it is most widely known as Engel auf den Feldern singen and in England it was originally called Angels From the Realms of Glory but it often known as Angels We Have Heard on High. Everyone will rejoice upon hearing the 'Gloria in excelsis Deo' refrain!

Cariad, a Welsh word meaning 'true love', 'great love', is a composition by Welsh composer Gareth Glyn, featuring six folksongs based on the theme of love: Dacw Nghariad (There's my love); Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn (Watching the White Wheat); Mae Nghariad I'n Fenws (My Love is a Venus); Y Deryn Pur (The Message Bird); Tra Bo Dau (While Two Remain); Hen Ferchetan (The Old Spinster). Originally composed for Children's Choir and Orchestra, the composer then revised it for orchestra, on which this arrangement for Concert/Wind Band has been adapted. The contemporary setting brings a special lift and expression of joy to this unique folksong setting.

The imperial anthem composed by Franz Josef Haydn, which to this day, survives as the German national anthem, has played a very special role in the story of Austria. It seems that Haydn was inspired by a Croatian folksong. It was sung in Burgenland Croatian areas in various versions under the title Atal se jesem (I am standing).
