Cradlesong - Larry Barton
This sensitive composition is about emotions that are difficult to verbalize, but that can be expressed with music. It is a beautiful, gentle lullaby inspired by a father putting a newborn child to sleep in the wee hours of the night, but the strength of the climax represents the depth of a parent's feelings. Perfect for that touching moment in any performance!

£58.50Red - R.W. Smith
"Red" is a powerful and energetic work for concert and festival performance. As the first movement from Krisanna's Colors, the suite is inspired by her color choices used to describe her daily emotions and moods. Beginning with somber clarinet solo and choir, the mood quickly changes to bombastic and extreme energy. You may consider programming "Red" (Mvt. 1) along with "Blue" (Mvt. 2) and "Yellow" (Mvt. 3) for even greater effect. An excellent choice for your concert/festival program!

Elegy - Melvin L. Shelton
A touching and intense memoriam piece, the mechanics are on the easy side of Grade 4, but the demand for tone quality and control in tenuto passages and long slurred phrases calls for the best of musicianship from any group. The "Adagio e Rubato" tempo indication invites the kind of wonderfully expressive ensemble playing that should probably make up a larger part of band literature than it does today. Over a quiet unifying heartbeat from the timpani, the band explores the emotions felt after a tragic personal loss. A soaring F Horn solo (cued in Trumpet. and Alto Saxophone) leads poignantly toward a gentle Orchestra Bells and Wind Chime ending.

Swords against the Sea - James L. Hosay
Blackbeard and his crew of ruffian freebooters, aboard the ship Queen Anne's Revenge, were the terrors of the Atlantic and the Caribbean in the early 18th century. Composer James L. Hosay captures those turbulent times in music with his vivid and exciting new tone poem, SWORDS AGAINST THE SEA. This presents an excellent opportunity for cross-curriculum teaching with history.SWORDS AGAINST THE SEA carves out new territory all its own. A rollicking sea chantey and the emotions of impending battle are described in the first two movements. Your audience will thrill to the sound and fury of battle in the final movement, as the most feared Pirate of his day finally meets his match. Go ahead! Raise your spyglass! Look ahead, look astern, look a'weather and a'lee!

£149.99KYO-WA - Satoshi Yagisawa
KYO-WA is a suite in three movements - Fanfare, Chorale and March, which composer Satoshi Yagisawa wrote individually year on year between 2008 and 2010 for a symphonic wind band. The word KYO in the title can mean resonance, but also togetherness, working together and competition. WA means peace and harmony. These ideas, together with a broad palette of emotions from sadness and fear to hope and rapture, have been woven into a piece that is typical of his new compositional style.
