Molenaar Edition is pleased to present a sophisticated and challenging youth band composition of Mr. Kees Vlak (30th September 1938 - 5th December 2014). A Strange Party, consisting of the following parts; Dino's Rock, Waltz of the Ardvark, Turtle and March of the Black Spider, is to be played with a minimum of 4 wind instruments. This piece is very well suited for a contest.

£90.30Glenn Meets Wolfgang - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
JEF PENDERS (Hoensbroek 1928) is also a very popular Dutch wind band music composer who also does a great job as conductor, arranger and recording supervisor. In his novelty Glenn meets Wolfgang (1969) he arranged the tune of Mozart's 'Sonate Facile' into the Glenn Miller style. It proved to be a successful formula as this piece was followed by 'Glenn beats the Battle of Jericho', 'Glenn plays after the Ball' and, more recently, 'Glenn mucks about with the clarinet'. £116.40Noels de France - Meindert Boekel
The Dutch composer Meindert Boekel (Amsterdam, 1914 - Hilversum, 1989) became famous because of the Scherzo from his 'Suite Classique' already published by Molenaar Edition in 1948. Boekel was, no doubt, one of the pioneers of modern wind music in The Netherlands. He became popular as the first conductor of the Dutch National Brass Band in 1962. He composed some sixty works for band; several of them were of religious inspiration.

Between 1900 and 1910 Edward Elgar wrote a serie of five marches with the same title. Apart from the first one (also a Molenaar Edition publication) the fourth enjoys a great popularity because of its wonderful Trio. From a technical point of view this one sets fewer demands than nr. 1 and is also excellently suited for fanfare band.

£61.00Trumpet Tune - W. Boyce
Originally the second movement of Boyce's Voluntary in D, this piece has become popular in the English Church as a postlude for occasions such as weddings. In this edition it has been extensively re-arranged by Rodney Parker in baroque style for two solo trumpets and band.The solo trumpets are best placed apart, ideally above and to each side of the band but not too far away. The piece should be played in a clear baroque style with special attention to dynamics and articulation. The accompaniments should never overpower the soloists and it should always be performed lightly. This is most important for the Tuba and other bass instruments for which this piece is a fitness test!

£61.00Song of Freedom - Manfred Schneider
Manfred Schneider (1953), is since 1972 a member of the German Military Band Heeresmusikkorps 300) based at Koblenz. After his overture 'Upside Down' and the rhythmical study 'Rock and Go' Molenaar Edition now publishes this lyrical 'Song of Freedom'. A nice slow tune turns into a very rhythmical intermezzo, but soon returns to its original slow but compelling character. You can hardly refrain from joining in.

The German composer Manfred Schneider (Kestert am Rhein, 1953) played French horn in the Military Band of the German Army at Koblenz. He added several fine compositions to the contemporary original wind band repertoire. Since the very popular 'Upside Down', quite a number of interesting compositions by Schneider were published by Molenaar Edition, such as this work 'First Appearance' a most pleasant slightly swinging slow.

£186.20Overture for a Summer Afternoon - Georgy Salnikov
We still do not understand why the excellent Russian composer Georgi Salnikov did not yet completely break through as band music composer in Western Europe. His exquisite music for symphonic band boasts all ingredients to appeal to large audiences. Molenaar Edition already published several of his compositions, such as Burleske, Children's Suite, Poem for French Horn and Symphonic Band and Russischer Reigen. The merry Overture for a Summer Afternoon opus 51 is a most welcome addition to this specific original repertoire. As always, Salnikov's signature guarantees a composition of high quality.
