Otto M. Schwarz is endeavoring to contribute new ideas to concert band literature. He has contributed in the field of multimedia (Asteroid), and with his many compositions in symphonic/modern arrangement (Jazz Waltz No 1, Fire and Ice or Band Fever). His new composition Funk Attack is, as the name suggests, a piece in funk style. Otto M. Schwarz first gained his experience in his style in the 8o?s, transcribing numbers by famos Amerarican bands including "Earth, Wind and Fire", "Tower of Power"", and the British slap idol "Mark King" (Level 42). Funk attack is atypical of "the concert band scene" and requires absolute precision in phrasing and rhythm. Without the support of agreat percussion groove, the orchestra plays an interlocked theme in the central section in style of recent American Big Bands. Otto M. Schwarz dedicated this work to "Alexander Veit and Symphonic Winds".

An arrangement for wind band of Purcell's haunting Dido's Lament. This arrangement was made in the period of national mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I needed something as a reflective concert piece and chose to arrange Dido's Lament - the aria "When I am laid in earth" from the opera Dido and Aeneas by the English composer Henry Purcell (1659-1695). There have been various versions of this beautiful song from Stokowski's lush orchestration to Annie Lennox's more lateral slant. While not wanting to try and completely emulate the original, I did not want to stray too far from it. Purcell's style of Baroque music was uniquely English and, for the theoretically minded, this aria makes exemplary use of the passus duriusculus in the ground bass.- Rob WiffinDuration: 3.30

A city is founded, it has a heart that beats. But visible achievements such as buildings and infrastructure merely bear witness to what its true heart is made of, the people who have lived, and still live, in the city. The pulse of the city, brought to life by its heartbeat, changes over time. Who hasn't seen those time-lapse images showing twinkling lines of car lights as people make their way to work, while others stand at traffic lights, only moving as if at the push of a button? These are like life flowing in the veins, driven by a strong heart. Leonardo da Vinci had already imagined the rivers as the blood vessels of the Earth. In any city, though, it's not the rivers but the movement and activities of the people who live there. The heart doesn't always beat steadily, however, but its rhythm can be influenced by joy, fear, and many other things. Every city has its own pulse. This is also true of the university city of Marburg, where people from over 100 nations now live together in a cosmopolitan and tolerant community. The music for The Perfect Fool is taken from an opera by the same name, written by English composer Gustav Holst over the period of 1918 to 1922. The opera received its premiere at the Covent Garden Theatre, London on 14 May 1923. This arrangement consists of the three distinct dances: Dance of Spirits of Earth, Dance of Spirits of Water, and Dance of Spirits of Fire. They embody the power, intensity, mystery and sheer beauty that define this piece. This arrangement includes the original celesta and harp parts. However, the celesta may be substituted with piano at the octave, and the vibraphone covers the significant harp solos.
