Deep Field (SATB Chorus and Smartphone App with Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Score and Parts includes 40 choral octavos. Grammy Award-winning American composer Eric Whitacre's symphonic work Deep Field was inspired by the world's most famous space observatory, the Hubble Space Telescope, and its greatest discovery, the iconic Deep Field image. The new film - Deep Field: The Impossible Magnitude of Our Universe - illuminates the score by combining Hubble's stunning imagery, including never-seen-before galaxy fly-bys, with bespoke animations to create an immersive, unforgettable journey from planet Earth to the furthest edges of our universe. The soundtrack features a new, epic Virtual Choir representing 120 countries: over 8,000 voices aged 4 to 87, alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Eric Whitacre Singers. The smartphone App playing the Deep Field electronica should be triggered by audience members from bar 217 to the end of the piece, as cued by the conductor. The app is free and must be downloaded in advance of the performance. It is available via the App Store and Google Play Store by searching "Deep Field." Duration: 20.00

Palustrus (Percussion Ensemble with Concert Band - Score and Parts)

Palustrus, for percussion ensemble and band, is based on two musical ideas. The first, a figure of two 16th notes, is introduced alluding to tiny seedlings as they sprout from the fertile earth. This figure quickly grows in frequency and density, then spreads into the second idea using a series of diatonic patterns. "Palustrus" is a medium-difficult, but attainable technical challenge in a diatonic setting. Splashes of dissonance in the winds support the active and exciting percussion ensemble statements throughout. Highly recommended for programs with a larger percussion section! Duration: 2.45

Red River (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob

Red River is a piece full of raw energy. The title is about the feeling engendered by the name rather than a reference to a specific place. In the composer's mind it is a river coloured red by the dust of the earth in a hot, sun-drenched landscape. Full of fiery rhythmic drive and syncopation carried along by Latin percussion, performers will enjoy the vigour and verve of the music. Duration: 4.20

Resonemus Laudibus (Concert Band with Optional Choir - Score and Parts) - Noble & Willcocks

Resonemus Laudibus is a 14th-century carol which was widely known in medieval Europe, and is still performed today. David Willcocks' arrangement brings a modern excitement to the piece, which would not have been out of place all those centuries ago. The Latin text is translated: 1. Resonemus laudibus cum jocunditatibus ecclesiam fidelibus. Let us make the church resound with the joyful praises of the faithful. Apparuit quem genuit Maria He whom Mary bore has appeared. 2. Deus fecit hominem ad suam imaginem et similitudinem. God made man in his own image and likeness. 3. Deus fecit omnia caelum, terram, maria cunctaque nascentia. God made all things, heaven, earth, the seas and all creation. 4. Ergo nostra concio in chordis et organo benedicat Domino. Therefore let our congregation praise God with strings and organ. 5. Et Deo qui venias donat et laetitias nos eidem gratias. And to God, who gives favours and happiness, we give thanks. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Helios Rising (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Stalter, Todd

In Greek mythology, Helios is a Titan who faithfully drove the Sun's chariot across the sky each day, disappearing in the west into Oceanus (the ocean, which the Greeks believed encircled the Earth), and rising out of it again in the east the next morning. Helios' journey at sunrise is referenced musically by the ascending leap in the main theme and the strong driving rhythms of the low winds and percussion. The contrasting light and dark textures in the slow section depict twilight inevitably giving way to the darkness of night.Duration: 2:45

Luceafarul (The Evening Star) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Doss, Thomas

Luceafarul (The Evening Star) is based on an old Romanian legend about a princess who falls in love with the evening star. Eventually the star returns her love, and one night he climbs down in human form to her. However, their love fails because of his realisation that such a connection between heaven and earth is impossible. Thomas Doss has translated this romantic, touching love drama into an equally dramatic and emotional musical work. Deeply moving!

The Book of Urizen (Movement III: The Web) (Soprano, Narrator and Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jacob

The Book of Urizen is a work for concert band, solo soprano, and a male narrator in which sound collages of religious expressions are used. The piece is inspired by the compelling visionary poem of the same name (which the poet illustrated himself) by the Englishman William Blake (1757-1827), who occupies a unique position in western literature and the visual arts. He was not just a poet and a writer, but he was also a graphic artist, a painter, an illustrator, a spiritualist, a religious visionary, and a mystic philosopher. For the performance of this work, a professional sound system, including two microphones and a CD player, is needed. The three sound collages are three separate tracks on the enclosed CD and can be played easily at the right moment. The Book of Urizen bears resemblance to Genesis and Exodus, of which the contents form the basis of the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faith. Blake adhered to the principle that all religions are in fact one, and that deities reside in human beings. In The Book of Urizen this is represented in "The Net of Religion," which is spanned over the earth by Urizen. The sound collages, compiled by Jacob de Haan in the studio, find their origin in Jerusalem, the Holy City, where the afore-mentioned faiths come together. The first two movements, The Vision and The Creation, are available in a separate set.
