    La Belle Hlne

For La Belle Hlne Jacques Offenbach was inspired by Greek mythology. The plot is based on the story of Helen of Troy, but was turned into a satire on French high society of the 19th century. The overture of La Belle Hlne was-andis-very popular. Offenbach combined within it a series of arias and choral passages from the operetta.

Somebody to Love - Freddie Mercury

Somebody to Love, from rock legends Queen, is one of the most popular rock ballads of all time. Taking its inspiration from gospel choirs, the band's vocal lines were multiplied many times over to create a full choral sound. This layered effect has been carefully preserved in Peter Kleine Schaars' powerful arrangement for concert band.

The Gospel Mass - Jacob de Haan

The Gospel Mass -a mass for mixed choir, combo and concert band-is based on the gospel music that has spread throughout the world since its creation in America. The movements of the mass ordinary as we know it have now been composed in various pop styles that have their origin in the gospel music. We hear, then, not only the classic American gospel style (including the characteristic clapping and swingrhythms), but also freer gospel styles that have developed over the course of time. As far as we know, The Gospel Mass is the only true gospel mass. Choral parts available separately.

    L'Espoir - Satoshi Yagisawa

The renowned Japanese composer Satoshi Yagisawa was given three separate tasks for this commission: it should be a short, attractive piece of music that is easy to listen to; it should be suitable as a choral exercise; and it should be fitting as anencore for the regular annual concert of the client. So it was that Yagisawa composed a glorious, warm-sounding work that satisfies all three requirements, and additionally serves as an excellent intermezzo in any concert.

Palestrina Suite - Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina

Hymns by Giovanni de Palestrina pre-date those of Bach by over a century and incorporate the great polyphonic tradition of Renaissance writing. The compositions used in this suite are from a collection published in 1589 titled Hymns of the Entire Year, and incorporate antiphonal choral effects that lend themselves particularly well to instrumental settings. John Moss uses richly contrasting tone colors and textures as well as characteristic modal tonalities in this wonderful setting for band. Dur: 3:30 (Includes Full Performance CD)
