Program NotesThere have been numerous vocal settings of The Lord's Prayer over the years, and several of them have found their way into various areas of instrumental repertoire.This beautifully crafted yet simple arrangement by Gordon Camsey has found its way from its original choral version to the medium of wind band, where the melodic lines will offer real scope to express and exploit the widely varied tone colours that are available. Although brief in duration, it would provide an effectively restful moment of contrast in a concert programme, and could also be used effectively as prelude music at a church or ceremonial occasion.

African Dances - Kit Turnbull
African Dances is a continuous work for solo clarinet and wind ensemble consisting of five individual sections. The basis for the piece is the clarinet's construction from the wood of the African blackwood tree, and its subsequent development into the instrument we know today. Each movement draws on different aspects of Pan-African music, ranging from the styles and forms of the African choral tradition, through to the complex cross-rhythms and patterns that characterise so much of the music of Africa.

£75.38Temperamental (Concert Band) Fendall Hill
This work by Fendall Hill was the set test for the 2021 National Brass Band Championships of New Zealand, B Grade. Here it has been adapted for Concert Band. The composer writes: 'J.S. Bach (1685-1750) is deemed by many to be the 'Ulimate Composer'. He added an incredible proportion to the DNA of western music, and his influence is heard in the music of today. Like many artists, he was not overly recognised as a composer during his lifetime, and it took an 1829 performance of the St Matthew Passion by Mendelssohn to ignite a recognition of his place in the music world, a place he has maintained ever since. This piece starts with a similar spark of rediscovery of the music of Bach. It contains arrangements of various works, interspersed with composition based on Bach's chord structures, sections in the style of Bach, and original sections inspired by the moods created along the way. The first section explores the Toccata, and great organ works. This leads into an exploration of his choral works, and a finale based on the Preludes. The word 'Tempered' has different meanings, and all seem to apply to the music of Bach, and these appeal to the musical, engineering and spiritual aspects of my personal life. His music reaches to the humanity and divinity, it has strength, structure and order that creates frameworks in which incredible complexity reigns; and the complexity leads to a wildness, a kind of craziness that represents a range of human moods, and can change without warning. The same piece of music affects people in very different ways. I don't know if it's Bach's music, or us, but it can seem out of control and under control at the same time - the combination is highly temperamental. Abendlied (CB) - Josef Rheinberger - Pierre-Antoine Savoyat
Abendlied (Evening song) is a sacred motet by Josef Rheinberger for a six-part mixed choir. He wrote the first version in 1855 at the age of 15. It is perhaps his most famous choral work, which looks backward to the great sacred music of the Renaissance.

£49.95A Life Well Lived (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
A Life well lived was commissioned by the Morrish family in 2023 on the death of Ian Morrish. It is dedicated to them with the inscription in loving memory of Ian.I knew Ian from early days at Southall Citadel Salvation Army Corps and then our paths crossed again briefly when I joined the Central Band of the Royal Air Force. Ian had been a euphonium player in the band for many years and was about to leave to take up a teaching post in Surrey. He was always very involved in choral music, conducting choirs throughout his life. I therefore wanted to keep this piece song-like and actually started with the song which appears from letter D to the end, which can always be performed on its own. From there I used the rising octaves that introduce the song to form the beginning of the work, with the feeling in the back of my head of a river starting to flow. There is nothing referential in the more dramatic sections towards the beginning, but every life has its dramas and I wanted something to give some balance to the tranquil nature of much of the piece. In the middle of the work I use a little motif taken from a song I remember Ian singing in his floating tenor voice. I develop the motif a little as an accompaniment to a new line which has, for me, a sense of purpose and directness and has an oblique reference to the RAF March Past. This builds to the aforementioned song and from there the music flows with its highs and lows to its peaceful conclusion.- Rob WiffinDuration: 3.30

Songs from the Lowlands is a collection of songs from the 16th and 17th centuries from my native country The Netherlands, formerly known as The Low Countries. They are, by turns, patriotic songs by Adriaen Valerius from the time when our country was occupied by Spain, naughty love songs and a drinking song, Peeckel-Haringh. Songs from the Lowlands was written for the farewell concert of my dear friend Jim Yarnell, who has been the director of bands at The American School of The Hague for four decades. Jim conducted the premire at his final concert, April 8, 2022, and now enjoys a well-deserved retirement.Duration: 12.00Songs from the Lowlands can be performed instrumental or with SATB choir (choral parts available separately).

Hidden Light (Loyalty Among Friends), was composed on the occasion of the 75 year membership of Mr Leo Knoben at the Royal Brass Band 'Eendracht Waubach'(NL). From pride and admiration for this exceptional jubilee , but also out of gratitude for his many years of commitment as musician and member of the board, the association chose to have a memorable work written. That assignment resulted in the wonderful choral Hidden Light, for which composer Kevin Houben based himself on the following emotions and oppositions: small vs majestic, submissive vs royal and simplicity vs glory. The work starts in a very modest, dark atmosphere, after which the composition develops into a grand and lofty sound with broad melodies, exploring the full richness and colors of the 'symphonic' wind band. The interesting variety in orchestration - the small, intimate setting at the beginning and the following broad, majestic tutti passages - makes the work very varied, grateful to perform and to listen to. With Hidden Light Kevin Houben has again created an expressive and powerful composition that is highly reflective in nature. This emotional work is a tribute to an exceptional man who has been there for 'his' orchestra all his life, with a warm heart for 'his' musicians. Each musician will recognise the connection and the passion for music in this piece. Duration: 5.30
