Birthday Honours was premiered in 2007 to celebrate the 70th birthday of British composer Guy Woolfenden. It makes a perfect piece to mark any anniversary or as a surprise on someone's actual birthday. The trio section of this march quotes the familiar tune, Happy Birthday, before melody, counter-melody and the initial theme all combine to create an extravagant musical celebration. The opening introduction forms a swift and conclusive coda at which point it is time to blow out the candles and serve up the cake!

Catcher of Shadows was written in celebration of the work of photographer Frank Meadow Sutcliffe who lived and worked in the Yorkshire fishing port of Whitby at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. His work is largely of the sea, its tall ships and the people that live by and from it. The world which he catalogued is gone into our Romantic heritage, and a true northern nostalgia is one of the strongest flavours of his work. The music has sought to catch the flavour as well as some of the substance of his original work, even though particular photographs are directly connected with particular parts of the music. Christmas Colours is a palette consisting of several Christmas songs. Bruce Fraser has mainly used the colours green (the colour of holly) and white (the colour of snow). This composition begins with the chiming of festive bells - if you listen well, however, you can already hear short fragments from 'The Holly and the Ivy', whose entire melody is finally played, alternated with 'The Sussex Carol'. After this, the pace slows down and the stately 'See amid the Winter Snow' sounds, but parts from 'Jingle Bells' and 'Silent Night' can also be heard. Then, after walking under 'The Holly and the Ivy' once again, the celebration of Christmas may begin!Duration: 3:45

All sections of the band are featured in this arrangement for the holiday season. Following a full band introduction, individual choirs of the band present short holiday tunes. Each feature flows directly into the next giving the audience a "prism" musical experience. The full band returns to finish the performance in glorious celebration. Most of this arrangement can be rehearsed in sectionals making preparation time short and very educationally effective!

Commemorations was written during Martin Ellerby's tenure as Composer-in-Residence to the Regimental Band of Her Majesty's Coldstream Guards. The idea behind this particular commission was to write a work commemorating various events in the Regiment's history. The resulting work was an amalgam of such pieces written for specific occasions - hence the work can be performed as a whole or as individual movements. The movements are: Fanfare and Royal Procession; Hougoumont (March in Memoriam); Jacob the Goose (Scherzando Militaire); Elegy, 1944 (Anthem for a Regiment); Blue, Red, Blue (March in Celebration). DANCING 'ROUND THE NURSERY (Programme Concert Band) - Wiffin, Rob
In 2006 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II held a massive garden party in the grounds of Buckingham Palace bringing children from across the UK face to face with music and characters from British literature. The participants were greeted at the Palace by the Band of Her Majesty's Welsh Guards playing a splendid selection of children's songs. The success led to a recording by the Welsh Guards Band, and we are now delighted to publish this celebration of youthful music.

Earhart
The legend of Amelia Earhart continues to capture the imaginations of aviators and historians worldwide. Earhart, a pioneer in aviation and in women's rights, began her final journey in the United States and crossed multiple continents. Robert W. Smith has drawn upon Earhart's final flight to create this unique musical composition. Following the opening "takeoff," the composer was inspired by the indigenous sounds of the various continents in Earhart's flight path. From a unique fugue inspired by the music of Central and South America to a lyrical statement from the Dark Continent, the listener is transported on a musical journey that will capture the imagination. Following a dark and powerful percussion statement with Asian overtones, the journey ends not in tragedy but in celebration as the original flight theme returns. An excellent choice for any concert setting!

Extra Score. The work has no opus number but was written between his famous Tam O'Shanter overture for orchestra (opus 51) and his John Clare Cantata (opus 52) and completed in April 1955. Originally scored for 4 horns, 3 trumpets, 1 cornet, 3 trombones, timpani and 3 percussion. This new version for concert band by Michael McDermott was made in celebration of Malcolm Arnold's 80th birthday. Performance time 2'00"
