A quiet, gentle piece dedicated to the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. In February 2014 Rob Wiffin went to the Isle of Man to conduct a workshop with the Isle of Man Wind Orchestra. The year is particularly significant - Island of Culture 2014 is the largest cultural celebration in the history of the Isle of Man. This simple lullaby does not contain any traditional Manx material but was written specifically for the wind orchestra. It is in familiar ABA form but the middle section adds just a moment of piquancy and tension before the return of the original theme dissipates it.Duration: 3.12

This work is comprised of three main sections. The first and last sections are predominantly a musical setting of the concepts of celebration and joy in keeping with the theme of jubilee. The music is therefore above all dynamic, energetic and extrovert. The middle section has a more introspective, melodic character, contemplating the subtle beauty of life. Commissioned by the distinguished Northshore Concert Band under the direction of Mallory Thompson, Let the Amen Sound is based on Joachim Neander's 17th-century chorale "Lobe den Herren," known in English as "Praise to the Lord." The hymn tune is stated first by a solo flute, accompanied by percussion and muted trumpets, evoking the sound of liturgical bells. Three variations follow that represent important milestones common to human existence - the playful exuberance of childhood, the sentimental dance of youth, and the triumphant celebration of lives well lived.
