Earth, Wind & Fire was formed by jazz drummer Maurice White, whose aim was to mix various music styles to produce a unique sound. Combined with excellent song writing and fine performances this sound made Earth, Wind & Fire one of the most influential soul groups of the seventies. In subsequent decades they experienced varying success but this medley reflects the heyday of this legendary group. In his job as staff arranger with the Royal Marine Band of the Dutch Navy, Peter Kleine Schaars wrote many top class arrangements. The talent of the musicians in the band made it possible to write in such a way that they closelyresembled the original works. Consequently this medley shines just like the original versions by Earth, Wind & Fire. Four famous songs have been used: 'In the Stone', 'Got to Get You into My Life', 'After the Love Has Gone' and 'September'.

The work opens with primordial, mysterious sounds representing the foreboding volcanoes of Hawaii. We are then introduced to Pele as a tall, beautiful young woman. This is one of the forms she can take and it represents her powers of creation and beauty. This gives way to the active and destructive Pele, often taking the form of an old woman, wrinkled and bent with age. The following lyrical section of the piece is the full statement of Pele's theme of creation and beauty. As this theme settles, we begin to hear the ground pop and crack letting us know that newlava is beginning to bubble and flow. Suddenly and violently, one of her volcanoes erupts, creating massive chaos and destruction. After the eruption subsides, Pele's theme of creation and beauty returns again. A wonderful addition to any concert or festival performance by mature bands. Exceptional in every respect!

£214.95BLACK FIRE (after Paradise Lost) (Violin Solo with Concert Band - Score and Parts)
This is not a straight forward concerto, but rather a symphonic drama for violin and ensemble. It uses the soloist as both protagonist and ensemble player, much as Berlioz treated the viola in his symphony 'Harold in Italy'. Black Fire is written in one movement though it has three clear sections (slow, fast and slow). The music reflects the various shades of darkness and suffering that dominate the atmosphere of the early part of the poem. The violinist takes the role of Satan, reflecting his moods, from righteous indignation to sorrowful remorse. A motif from Wagner's opera 'Gotterdaemmerung' (Twighlight of the Gods) is used throughout the work to represent Satan's brooding hatred. At the end of the work you will find Satan in the form of the solo violin heroically travelling towards Paradise to corrupt 'Mankind'. Duration: 26:00
