There is a saying that "the test of great music is that it stands the test of time." While there have been many triumphal marches written by great composers, few are as well-known as this powerful and exuberant march from Act II of Giuseppe Verdi's 1871 grand opera, Aida. This arrangement is orchestrated to showcase the richness and capabilities of the contemporary wind band and is based on the early 20th Century setting by the famous Italian bandmaster and composer Giuseppe Creatore. John Larsson and John Gowans collaborated on a number of successful Salvation Army musicals, Larsson providing the music to words by Gowans. The song 'Ask! Ask! Ask!' was one of the 'hits' from the musical 'Spirit' and has been used in a variety of contexts since its first appearance in the 1970s. This arrangement was written at the request of Ronnie and Jerome Astwood for the Somerset Community Church Band in Bermuda and is modelled (with apologies!) on the Louis Vega song 'Mambo No.5'.
