Through a musical style rich in emotion and power, this work celebrates the "survivors" - those who, despite the hardships of war and injury, continue to pick themselves up, overcome adversity, and find within themselves an unshakeable determination. Dance Suite comprises three dances - Femme Fatale (a tango), Midnight Wish (a rumba) and Wherever I look (a Mambo). The first two movements are fairly straightforward but the mambo is a little more difficult and also requires 4 rather than three trumpets - the fourth part being included in the first trumpet part in the complete suite. The music works best with a string bass or a bass guitar but the bass line is fully cued in the tuba part. Each of the movements is also available separately.Duration: 11.00

This piece was composed in 2022 as a commission work for the 50th regular concert of the Takamatsu First Senior High School Symphonic Wind Ensemble in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, and was performed for the first time in the world by the same group under the direction of Koji Ishikawa. The high school in question is a prestigious school that has produced many excellent musicians. When Satoshi Yagisawa was asked to compose a piece that could be played at the opening of every concert, he named it Antipasto, which means 'appetizer' in Italian cuisine. This humorous work, which likens a concert to a restaurant course meal, condenses the composer's typically flamboyant and dramatic music into a digestible whole of about three and a half minutes.Duration: 4.00

American Prelude was commissioned by the United States Marine Band "The President's Own" and was composed in honour of the retirement of Colonel Jason K. Fettig, the 28th Director of the USMB. This short and energetic work features subtle hints to two of my favourite American composers, Aaron Copland and John Williams. The performance at Colonel Fettig's final concert with the Marine Band was the world premiere, given at the annual Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago, Illinois on December 20st, 2023.Duration: 4.15

Paseo is a Spanish word for a leisurely walk or stroll. The soloist takes the musical line for a walk with no great sense of hurry. There is one moment where the pleasantness of the stroll is threatened but it quickly passes and the good mood is resumed. Technically this needs a good sense of cantabile and control over the range from low D to D two octaves higher.In order to allow the oboe soloist to sing through without fighting the accompaniment, the saxophones, trumpets and percussion have been omitted.Duration: 4.15

A moving composition portraying the beauty but also ephemeral nature of life itself. Based on a simple seven tone idea, the work develops from a gentle almost intimate mood towards a life- affirming climax. Robin Hoffmann, born 1984, studied composition and arranging at the Dresden College of Music. Since 2006, he has worked as composer, orchestrator and arranger for international film and concert productions. In 2010, the London Symphony Orchestra recorded his violin concerto at Abbey Road studios. His film music for Hero and A Father's Job won numerous international prizes. He was awarded a gold record in 2022 as arranger for Alex Christensen.Duration: 4.00
