Introitus (SATB Choral Octavo - Pack of 25) - De Haan, Jacob

The Latin word "Introitus" means 'entry'. Originally, this was a psalm sung to accompany the entrance of a bishop, priest or celebrant into the church. Later it was incorporated into the mass with alternating sung and spoken text, reflecting the mood of the liturgy. Jacob de Haan's Introitus, in which he has arranged the hymns Puer natus est nobis and Lobt Gott, Ihr Christen alle gleich, is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and can be performed with any instrumental combination with mixed choir and organ ad libitum. Invention for Band is a fantasia, or short overture, in free contrapuntal style. In the opening sections, the principal melody is played by most of the sections of the band with thematic variations. The faster allegro development section begins with a fiery motive that is quickly answered by the low brass and the low reed instruments. Investiture Dances (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Hoddinott, Alun - Noble, Paul

These dances were written to commemorate the Investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales, at Caernarfon Castle, in July 1969. Written to a commission from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (who premiered this work on 22 June 1969), the Investiture Dances are based on characteristics of Welsh folk music rather than specific pre-existing tunes. Band directors will find the Investiture Dances to be completely idiomatic of the Concert Band, with the music appropriate for concert and festival performance. The arrangement offers consistent performance requirements for all sections of the band, with exciting percussion interest. Each movement is based on the mixolydian mode, and are in a key compatible to wind instruments.

A ponderous and dramatic march from the "King" of all march composers! Composed for King's friend Merle Evans, bandmaster for the Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus, "Invictus" (which means "unconquerable") lives up to its title! After a ponderous minor-key first section featuring low brass and woodwinds, the second features an exciting "circusy" sound. The trio is followed by a return to the minor key, and ends with a rock-solid final section.
