Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Rossini, Gioachino - Cesarini, Franco

The Barber of Seville is based on the first of Beaumarchais' (1732- 1799) two sequential plays, The Marriage of Figaro being the second, although unusually the overture does not contain any themes from the ensuing opera. The music, however, is sparkling and tuneful encompassing the 'spirit' of the story that is about to unfold. The overture follows the form of the classic Italian style, with a slow introduction followed by a brilliant Allegro. Of course, the famous crescendo, so typical of Rossini's works, is also present.

Il Briccone (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

A wind music federation from Upper Austria commissioned Thomas Doss to compose Il Briccone, the Italian word for scoundrel. It is an elegant concert march which combines light ironic elements with virtuosity and exciting rhythms. Its alternation between chamber music-like passages with figures from solo instruments combined with surprising stylistic changes keeps everybody's interest. This march is sure to be a great crowd pleaser. 06:15

Il Cinghiale di Bronzo (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Tanaka, Kumiko

This suite is based on the fairy tale The Bronze Pig by Hans Christian Andersen. This is a story about a boy who wants to be a painter and a pig made of bronze. This pig, in Florence town square, is a bronze statue with clear water pouring from its mouth. Legend has it that when an innocent child sits on its back, that the pig can run. In three movements; Flying Dreams in a Starlight Sky, La Via Porta Rossa and Twilight on the Arno River this work is a highly descriptive storytelling piece that will be equally enjoyed by young and old alike. Il est n, le divin Enfant (English: He is born, the divine Child) is a traditional French Christmas carol, which was published for the first time in 1862. The text of the carol, which is written in four stanzas, details the birth of Jesus and the wait of 4000 years for the event, as told by the prophets. It both observes the humility of God's birth in a stable and calls on the Kings of the Orient to attend the child. This arrangement represents one in the Series of Band Arrangements compatible with David Willcocks' Carols for Choirs.

Il Presidente is a humorous march depicting a president's appearance before his people! The president's convoy is accompanied by a grand fanfare as he pulls up in his car. The people cheer and wave as the president starts to deliver his speech. Slowly their mood begins to shift and they become restless. Finally bored, the people begin to drift away. The finale accompanies people as they return to the city in search of more interesting ways in which to spend their time.
