Absolute Crossover (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schwarz, Otto M.
This composition is made up of three themes, which feature all the facets of the instrumentation of a concert band as well as that of a big band. The symphonic passages, reminiscent of film music, enable the full tone and colour of the concert band to be heard, whilst the big band sound is represented in the rock segments and slow swing sections. The musical journey travels along practically all styles, ending with an impressive tutti, in which the shuffle rhythm of the big band melts together with the grand, classic film music sound of the concert band.Duration: 7:45

Academic Festival Overture (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brahms, Johannes - Takahashi, Tohru
The German composer Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote his Academic Festival Overture in the summer of 1880, together with the Tragic Overture. The occasion was the honorary degree which Brahms had received a year before from the University of Breslau. Initially, Brahms had sent a thank-you note, but he was expected to express his gratitude with a composition. The premiere took place on 4 January, 1881 - conducted by the composer himself - in Breslau. For this sparkling work, Brahms used various German student songs as a basis in an inventive way - and a little jestingly. Owing to the accessible development, lyrical warmth, humour, and persuasiveness, the Academic Festival Overture is still a popular concert work. This transcription for concert band, which has been written by Tohru Takahashi, does justice to the original composition.Duration: 9:45

Academic Festival Overture Op.80 (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Brahms, Johannes - Story, Michael
Although conceived as a comical academic musical representation by its renowned composer, this overture is lyrical and exciting. There are opportunities for your students to present sudden stylistic changes and tempo shifts which permit for both performance and teaching. It is still used in a variety of settings (even in its comedic intent) in films and on the more serious concert stage. This arrangement includes generous cuing to accommodate incomplete instrumentations. Classic, familiar and even humorous, it is a sure winner for your developing band.Duration: 3:45

Academic Processional & Recessional
"Pomp and Circumstance" and "Sine Nomine" have become the standard processional and recessional melodies for academic ceremonies and functions worldwide. Robert W. Smith and Ed Huckeby have combined their talents and give us a fresh and creative new perspective on these academic standards. The scoring is exceptional, yet achieved with a limited instrumentation. With the band seniors involved in the ceremonies and not performing with the band, the voicing of these arrangements will be appreciated by all!
