Each year in July in the city of Pamplona, Spain, hundreds of people participate in the running of the bulls, which precedes the daily bullfights during the Fiesta de San Fermin. El Toro Amoroso (The Amorous Bull) dances about cheerfully in this frivolous Spanish-influenced piece. It was specially written for the summer camp of the Banda Pare Manyanet de Reus (Spain). At this camp, beginner and intermediate level young musicians form a band together. Accordingly, the piece is playable for beginners while still offering an adequate challenge in all parts. El Toro Rojo Grande

A lively Spanish flavored paso doble that is both entertaining and educational. Written in two distinctive sections, the first is a stately theme that evokes the sounds of the bullring. The second section is in the style of a lively Spanish dance in 6/8 time. Also provides a chance to show off your star trumpeter as it includes a couple of very effective trumpet solos (only goes to F in the staff). Very impressive composition for this grade level. Eldorado (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Deleruyelle, Thierry

The myth of El Dorado ("the golden one") stems from the story of a powerful chief who used to cover himself with gold dust before bathing in a sacred lake where he threw precious objects as offerings to the gods. The myth was soon relayed to the Spanish conquistadors and inspired many expeditions, although the invaders didn't bring back nearly as much gold as they expected, if any at all. Eldorado is a mysterious and dynamic work that illustrates the myth of the golden man and the European expeditions that followed. With a touch of exotic influences, the music is varied and rich. This piece was commissioned by the French Cultural Association Lille 3000 as part of their Eldorado-themed festival in 2019. Duration: 10.30
