Jan Van der Roost composed Dances of Innocence to commemorate a girl who passed away at the tender age of 14. In contrast to the sombre, joyless tone such a memory usually invokes, it is a rather cheerful work that reflects the innocence and light heartedness of a child. It does open in a serious mood, but quickly becomes more energetic and turns into a dance. Dances of Innocence is an ode to all the beauty, sincerity and cheerfulness that a child radiates.Duration: 6:00

Dances of Time was commissioned by the National School Band Association and first performed on 10 June 2000 at the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham Conservatoire, University of Central England, by the Aldridge School Wind Band , conducted by the composer. Time Present, Past and Future.... the melodic themes of this dance travel from the 5/4 meter of the present day, to the 3/4 waltzes of the past, to the 6/8 accented phrases of the future. Players will recognize the themes as they explore the variations and new meters to each dance.

Dancescriptions (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Schaars, Peter Kleine

Dancescriptions combines many styles derived from pop music with techniques from classical composition. The styles are not the focal point; the true musical definition comes from the interpretation of the transition passages. After the statement of a rhythmic and melodic cell the music is developed from the thematic material in the appropriate style - soul music, disco, merengue, ballad and rock - in the Big Band tradition. The different rhythms and genres are interwoven and combined to create a natural flow in this musical puzzle.Duration: 11:15

It's real fun, but real music as well. Your percussion section will crave the focus on special effects requiring a washtub, washboards, and jugs (a number of the percussion parts are optional but certainly enhance the entertaining effect). DANCING 'ROUND THE NURSERY (Programme Concert Band) - Wiffin, Rob

In 2006 Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II held a massive garden party in the grounds of Buckingham Palace bringing children from across the UK face to face with music and characters from British literature. The participants were greeted at the Palace by the Band of Her Majesty's Welsh Guards playing a splendid selection of children's songs. The success led to a recording by the Welsh Guards Band, and we are now delighted to publish this celebration of youthful music.
