Cityscape was commissioned by Concertband Antwerp for the 't Stad Geblazen event, which took place during the weekend of European Heritage Days in 2024.This short concert piece describes the impressions given when approaching and visiting the beautiful Belgian city of Antwerp from the north across the river Scheldt. We first pass the busy bustle of the harbour, home to the impressive Port House. Then the old city comes into view: the graceful cathedral tower, surrounded by smaller church spires and modern buildings, dominates the distinctive skyline. After setting foot ashore, we are struck by the beautiful way the medieval buildings here blend harmoniously with modern architecture. Our walk through the city continues: we visit the serene cathedral and are impressed by the picturesque faades of and around the city hall, as well as the Brabo Fountain on the Grote Markt (Large Market Square). Finally, it is time to enjoy the merriment taking place on the many squares of the lively city centre.Duration: 5.30

For Cityscapes, the composer used the metropolis of New York, the largest city of the United States, as a source of inspiration. The first movement mirrors the skyline of the 'Big Apple'. In movement two, Central Park is introduced and in the closing movement of this triptych, the ever-sparkling Manhattan, known for its many skyscrapers, and its financial centre Wall Street, is the focal point. Not only are the busy city traffic and the chaotic hustle and bustle expressed in the music, but also the impressive buildings, including the famous Empire State Building. Ciudad de Festivales (City of Festivals) (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Henry, Larry

Written in A-B-A form, Ciudad de Festivales begins with a rousing introduction using thematic and rhythmic motives. After an initial statement of the melody by a solo trumpet, the piece develops adding instruments and contrapuntal lines. The B section is introduced by a trumpet duet leading to a baritone solo. A short interlude leads to the return of the A section with the addition of obbligato woodwind parts. The introductory themes are used once again as the coda brings the piece to a spirited conclusion. Duration: 3.30

Civil War Echoes (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Longfield, Robert

As America commemorates 150 years since the Civil War, here is an appealing medley for young players that uses music of the period. The bugle call "Taps" originated during the Civil War and is used here at the beginning of the piece and incorporated again at the end. Clair (Concert Band - Score and Parts)

The Irish singer-songwriter Gilbert O'Sullivan possibly had his greatest success in 1972 with Clair. With its jazzy harmony, this song deviated a little from the spirit of the time. Stefan Schwalgin took the theme of Clair as a starting point, and gave the melody to the alto saxophone. His arrangement fits the tradition of solo works in which it is not so much about technical virtuosity, but rather about the sincerity and charm of the expression. Clair de Lune was originally written for piano, as the 3rd movement of the Suite Bergamasque by French composer Claude Debussy. This arrangement for trombone and wind orchestra was written at the request of Joe Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic and internationally renowned soloist. There is an alternative solo part included for alto saxophone.
