This uplifting march begins with the clarinets presenting the melody over a single snare drum accompaniment. The textures increase as the melody is developed, leading to a heavier minor section featuring strong lines by the low brass and woodwinds. A modified "roll-off" by the percussion section leads to a seamless modulation and the final presentation of the melody. A dynamic augmentation of the melody brings the march to a stirring conclusion.Duration: 2.45

Centennial Prelude (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

This short opening music was composed on commission of the symphonic band of Jan Van der Roost's village (= Kontich near Antwerp / Belgium). In 1991, this community band celebrated its 100th anniversary. After composing commissioned pieces from different countries (even from Japan), this was the most 'near' commission he ever received indeed! It is a short but varied piece, featuring all sections of the band. After a short introduction, played by the brass instruments, a crisp rhythm starts and boxes the main theme. After a second theme, played by brass and percussion, a short melodical passage brings some 'rest'. At the end, the fanfare of the introduction reoccurs. Although this "Centennial Prelude" isn't a really demanding piece, it sounds colourful and energetic. It has been recorded on CD by the band of the 'Royal Dutch Airforce' and the 'Desford Colliery Brass band'.Duration: 3:30

Centennial Salute (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Just based on its title, this piece has to be celebratory and up-beat, which it is! It opens with a stately fanfare, first played on the low brass before the entire band joins in. This gives way to a contrasting lyrical theme which develops until it joins up with the fanfare to complete the opening section. A lively and heavily syncopated vivo follows, cast as a traditional march, complete with a 'bass strain' and trio. After the original march theme returns, a climax leads back to a reprise of the majestic opening, which brings the piece to an appropriately triumphant close.Duration: 7:30

Center of the Universe (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - De Haan, Jan

This composition's title, written for the 75th anniversary of music society Excelsior from Ouwsterhaule (the Netherlands), is derived from a sculpture by the artist Gerlof Hamersma, which places this Frisian village in the Center of the Universe. With three movements featuring powerful themes, pastoral passages and an energetic finale, Jan de Haan has once again succeeded in creating an attractive work that will ensure lots of playing fun for many bands worldwide.
