Windjammers were the last of the great sailing tall ships, and this piece from the pen of Robert Buckley captures the majesty and excitement of these amazing vessels. The voyage begins announced by three solo trumpets surrounding the audience and bouncing musical phrases off one another. The sails are raised, the ship is underway, and the audience is taken on a colourful and exciting musical voyage. This is effective and skilfully scored programmatic music at its best.Duration: 5:45

Windows of the World (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Graham, Peter

Graham takes us first to Latin America, then to Japan, and onwards to sub- Saharan Africa. We get a gentle reprieve via a nostalgic hint of the British Isles before we land in the melting pot of all styles, the USA. In this final movement the driving swing section is abruptly stopped and a drum cadenza leads us back into the opening Latin music, with hints of the other styles as well. Described by Professor Ron Holz as "a global musical village", stylistic diversity is celebrated, and young musicians have fun while learning to master and embrace the performance practice requirements of each. The six movements 1) Amazonia 2) Rainforest 3) The Rising Sun 4) Drums of Thunder 5) Celtic Dream and 6) Earth Walk can be programmed individually.

"Windrider" is a celebration of life in the notorious wind found on the high plains of North America. An ever-evolving melody accompanied by evocative motivic elements and textures consistently suggest the wind. A rhythmically driving beginning is followed by a soaring lyric melody that is elaborated by thick chords that are masterfully scored. This lyric portion has elements of modern notation that keep the listener engaged and serve the music perfectly. All elements are drawn together into an explosive conclusion that unite the memorable melodies, lush harmonies and energetic rhythms showcasing all sections of the band. "Windrider" captures the imagination, catches the strong currents, and soars with them.
