As All the Heavens Were a Bell (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Bocook, Jay

Commissioned as a tribute to the Fire Department of New York City, this immensely moving work was premiered at an emotional performance for the firefighters in Manhattan this past March. The composition opens with a striking brass fanfare accompanied by woodwind flourishes. A sensitive treatment of the melody from America (My Country, 'Tis Of Thee) follows using haunting vocal colors (cued in F Horns). The nation in turmoil is depicted in an intensely driving and powerful section which evolves marvelously into a full-blown treatment of America with chorus and band. A truly magnificent musical tribute to the heroes of 9/11.

As I Walked Through the Meadow (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - La Plante, Pierre

Pastorale on a Traditional English Folksong. Pierre La Plante is well-known for his mastery at creating concert band settings of folk tunes with Grainger-esque style. "As I Walked Through The Meadow" is a pastorale setting of a traditional English folk tune that, with careful attention to intonation and expressive playing, will give your ensemble's musicianship a chance to shine. The middle section is a variation on the main theme which returns, builds to a climax and ends quietly in a somewhat wistful manner. A beautiful choice for concert or contest change of pace. As One Listens to the Rain (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - French, Daniel

As One Listens to the Rain is a marriage of two distinct musical ideas. The first, a solitary, solemn melody, is introduced in the trumpet and cloaked in an aura of slowly shifting transparent harmonies. This idea soon gives way to flowing lines and falling gestures that invoke an image of cascading rainfall. A hymn-like interlude provides a brief respite before the return of the rain which, in this final form, spins and tumbles over itself. A stirring and evocative work for modern winds.Duration: 6:30

As Shadows Fall

Beautiful and heartfelt, "As Shadows Fall" is an outstanding lyrical work for young band. A beautiful and memorable melody is first introduced by the flute and gradually grows amid changing textures and harmonies ultimately leading to a soaring and dramatic final climax. The music then ends as it began, with a gentle breeze, quietly fading away amid the setting sun. The many opportunities for lyrical performance technique and expressive qualities make this a superlative choice for concert or festival use. A valuable addition to the young band repertoire.

As Spirits Take Flight (Concert Band - Score and Parts) - Earl, Christian

Uplifting and bright, this fine overture was written for the Salt Lake Symphonic Winds. Images of flight are suggested through the composer's use of rhythm and tempo. The middle section has solo lines for trumpet and clarinet and is beautifully scored utilizing the many different colours available to the wind medium. Various cross cueings allow the conductor/director freedom to tailor the piece to fit a particular ensemble. An excellent choice for high school and community bands alike.Duration: 7.30
